Looking at building a new system and was wondering what memory to use on a 2600K system.

It it worth going down the Tri channel route What benefits would it give me over duel channel?

I've always used GeIL in the past but I'm open to any suggestions looking at around 6gig for a decent price if possible please.

Thank you.

The 2600k uses dual channel memory, not tri. In a dual channel set-up you'd be looking at either 4Gb or 8Gb of RAM.

My personal preference is for 8Gb, but 4Gb should be enough for most applications and games.

As for reccomendations, I've heard a lot of positive comments about the Corsair XMS3 and Vengeance kits.

i would go for g skill ripjaws, as you didn't know that it didn't support tri channel make sure you don't buy a sb cpu and try and stick it in a 1336 mobo, that would be very bad

Get the g.skills if you can afford them, get xms3 if you want to save money or get more memory for the price.

i have the g.skill 2133mhz and they are fantastic

You can only go dual channel with sandybridge mobos. And on that note dont make the same mistake i did and buy corsair vengeance 2x4gb 1866 memory, its over priced and cost me £120 2 months a go. Not only this the heatsinks are large and i had to replace my cpu cooler costing more money. I would go for the g.skill ripjaws 2x4GB 2133 on web offer with ocuk this week. £70 quid, that is fantastic and i well got robbed with the corsair

I picked up 2x4GB of the XMS3 for £84 a few weeks ago, not sure what they are now.

Have been really happy with them so far. Low profile so won't block coolers/fans, running at 1600 9-9-9-24 1T at 1.5v so does the job as well as any other I would say.

If you don't need 8GB then these will be perfect and only £36.

I'm also looking at memory for a sandy bridge rig, and was wondering...

For gaming, is there a noticable difference between the difference cas latencies for each memory speed?

It will run fine but you probably be running in single channel mode, ideally you use dual channel memory for the SB range and older range and the triple for i7 9xx ranges which have a triple channel controller.
