Placing an order at the weekend and have up to £80 to spend on memory.

System will be used for gaming and made up of an overclocked i5 760 on a gigabyte P55 board (haven't chosen which yet), 1GB 460 GFX and running Windows 7 ultimate 64bit.

What memory should I go for? Cooler clearance won't be an issue as I've decided to go with the H70.

I notice Overclockers use the dominator stuff in their overclocked bundles. Is there a reason they use that instead of the XMS3?

Hi mate, i think the Dominator having the large heat sinks keeps the memory cooler giving abit more on the overclock than the standard xms3

I too need to chose RAM to go with an i5-760, on Asus P7P55D-E Motherboard, which takes dual DDR3 RAM modules. I need 8 GB of RAM as a 2x4 GB kit as I do a lot of database work; what would people recommend for best performance when overclocked to 4 GHz if possible?

I don't think OC have an 8 GB Dominator kit, so what do people think of the Corsair Vengeance that's currently on offer, or would the much cheaper Corsair XMS3 work pretty much as well?

XMS3 is perfectly fine for i5 overclocking. It's likely that you wont be able to get much over 200 bclk, so running that at a 1:4 ratio will have the ram running at its rated 1600mhz. Dominator is also more expensive, as they are speed binned chips. The better clocking modules go to dominator ram, but again this isn't really an issue!

If you're interested in pushing the ram clocks, the 8gb vengeance set will do you better than the 8gb xms3. The vengeance is rated to run at a higher clock (1866 vs 1600) with the same timings (CAS9) and lower volts (1.5v vs 1.65v)

I wouldnt be overly surprised to see the Vengeance ram pushing 2000mhz cas8 if you run 1.65v through it, which is perfectly safe
