Hello I have two corsair cm2x2048-6400c5 5-5-5-18 800mhz strips of memory and also two Ocz2g8004gk pcs 6400 [email protected] strips. I have a gigabyte ep45-ds3 mobo can i put all the memory in? if so there are four slots they go red, yellow then red yellow again. Would i put one type of memory in the red slots and the other in the yellow slots etc? I am curious to know which is the best memory.

Hi mate.

Assuming the required voltages are the same it will be fine. If not, you may have to make some adjustments in the BIOS, but the timings are identical so it should be pretty easy

EDIT: If the required voltages are different (ie if the Corsair are rated at 1.3v for exp.) then you will have to run them at the lowest voltage (ie the OCZ @ 1.0v) which will impact timings and frequency of the advertised Corsair speeds/timings. It is possible to have both but take this into account

Nothing yet I have tried the corsair memory onits own the 2 strips and the machine is great but then when i add my 2 ocz memory aswell the machine freezes on startup so i guess its something to do with those voltages.

From what I can see the OCZ memory is rated at 5-5-5-18, 1.8V and the Corsair at 5-5-5-18, 1.8V.

OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Vista Performance Gold 4GB Dual Channel

XMS2 - 2GB DDR2 Memory (CM2X2048-6400C5)

If you set the timings at 5-5-5-18 and the voltage at 1.8V in the BIOS then it should work.

Filling all four slots might make any overclock you have unstable so you might want to try removing any overclock first.

I'm not sure if you bought the Corsair as a matched pair but the code you gave indicates an individual 2GB stick.

I have just tried lowering the voltage to normal which is less than 1.45 volts and the computer gets into windows but then freezes up. The corsair says 1.8v and my ocz was already running at that voltage so maybe the two tyopes of memory not compatible. Any feedback on this appreciated

Have you set the timings, voltage and speed manually in the BIOS?

Try 5-5-5-8, 1.8V but set the speed to 667MHz just to see if you can get them to work.

In the BIOS set "Performance Enhance" to Standard and turn off "Extreme Memory Profile".

Also set "System Memory Multiplier", "DRAM Timing Selectable" and "DRAM Voltage" to manual so you can put these in yourself.

Try swapping the sticks around in the slots.

Red: Corsair
Yellow: OCZ

or

Red: OCZ
Yellow: Corsair
