Hi all,

Im currently building a new pC and would like to know which of the following 4 X38 motherboards are best suited to an E8400 and crucial ballistics4GBPC8500 Ram :)

Asus Maximus Formula
Asus P5E
GA - X38 - DS4
GA - X38 - DS5

Thank you

if there are any other suggestions please do tell me :D ty

I have an E8400 on a Gigabyte GA P35 DS3P @4.2GHz, but runs stable @4.4GHz, using 4 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix PC5300, so an X38 is not really necessary for a good O/C with this processor.

But if you want an X38 board, the Gigabyte GA X38 DS4 or Asus P5E will be fine...:)

thanks for your advice, im new to overclocking and so i wanted components that are already relatively high in speed ect, lol im sure ill get more adventerous as I learn :D

Out of interets which one, out of DS4 or Asus P53; would you choose? Do they both have good support for drivers?

i suppose it comes down to which one has more features per £

i'm thinking about getting a mobo with a 2180 and upgrading to quad later on this year. would a p31 board be ok? even though they are older.

ps sorry for tread hijack.

Do you have any issues with misreading cpu temps? Did it worth straight away without a bios update?

Just thought id ask as im in the same boat about motherboard choices.

Yes, Core Temp etc give strange readings, I would think an update etc will remedy that.

I was already using BIOS F9 (the latest) on my P35 DS3P, and it booted up straight away, no issues whatsoever...:)
