Which Mobo for Conroe Overclock?

Hi,

I'm researching building a new rig. I understand the conroes are multiplier locked, so it's all about increasing the fsb. So my question is - what's the mobo of choice for warp speed fsb?

Thanks,
Philip

From what i have heard it depends on which conroe you are going for.

For an e6300 you want a 965 board, and the Gigabyte ds3 is probably the top choice.

For an e6600 you want a 975x board.

Edit for you m8.

With the 2MB its all down to Max FSB and the 965's are doing better. I would recommend the DS4 over the DS3. Better cooling for higher overclocks.

i take it that still holds true if you go for the 6400 instead of the 6300?.

i went for the 6400 just to be different/awkward :D

Just means you have more headroom to play with and if you are prepared to up the volts may be some nice clocks.

You will be very pleased with the DS4.

Surely, the Gigabyte DS3 paired with the E6600 would be the ultimate combo, as you are guarenteed to be able to max out the cpu - the Asus doesnt seem to reach the same bus speeds that the Gigabyte boards are commonly reaching?

I have yet to confirm this but some people are saying that the 4MB overclock better on the 975X.

I have a 6600 and P5W DH sat at home but have not had chance to really have a play yet. Still boxed up.

I would opt for the DS4 or the 3 because of the better cooling

Can you clarify that please - are you suggesting that the DS3 & DS4 both have better cooling than the Asus?

I just want a mobo which will be stable yet be able to overclock the CPU to the max.

Don't need to worry about the cooling as i have 3 separate loops. 1 cooling just the CPU, 1 for the GPU and 1 cooling chipset, ram, hard drives and maybe add a v-reg cooler if the mobo has one.

As with the quote above.. does it matter about the type of ram?
I'm getting the Gskill HZ6400 ram

im also gettin an E6600 Conroe. and i was wonderin what Motherboard to go for.
I was looking at the:

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775)

is this mobo good for overclocking. my other choice is:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi

i noticed that another person on this forum has his overclocked to 4ghz !.

Im going to be using watercooling for the new chip.

You will be watercooling the ram? Do you have any links (if that is what you intend to do)?

I also am on water and on my next system which will be conroe I'm thinking of cooling the chipset. For chipset cooling I think the DS3 will be the best as you can just take off the existing chipset heatsink and replace with the block. With a DS4, you have to remove the entire heatpipe block which may effect cooling all the other parts of the motherboard.

Ok carbine. Ive seen the pics. However, its still unclear if you are watercooling your ram. From what i can make out, i dont think the dimms are watercooled.

The DS4 has better cooling than the DS3, the Asus isn't part of that statement :)

The DS3 just has a heatsink, the DS4 has fancy heatpipes.

Ok, but if watercooling, the heatpipe assembly will almost certainly be removed. In which case the DS3 might be a better option with its extra pci slot. Right?
