Which mobo?

Hi Guys,

Right, this isn't an upgrade for me but for my brother.

He currently has 4x 512dimms of PC3200 RAM. 3700SD, XFX 7800GT and a few other bits and bobs but we need some advice.

He needs a new mobo but we're not sure which one. It'd be nice to stick to asus, but that could all change...

The budget is flexable but it depends on features and OCing isn't really going to happen.

The main issue is going dual 16x for SLi really worth it? Because if he upgrade in a year or two (just drop in another 7800gt) will there be much of a performance bump in dual 16x available on mobos?

Cheers all.

Agent.

Well if your working to a budget I would have said the Asrock Dual Sata 2 board, but as your thinking of going to SLI you'll want an SLI board.

I bought a Gygabyte GA-K8N Pro SLI last week and thats a very stable board (bought from OcUK when it was this week only) Depedns on how much your actual budget is though.

Hi Behemoth,

the budget is flexable in so mach as £50 - £150. It doesn't matter that much solong as there are good benefits to spending £150 on a mobo...

Is there a big performance difference (excluding Overclock-a-bility) on the higher end boards, such as the Asus A8N32-Sli Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16 over a Asus A8N-SLi SE nForce4 SLi?

Even though he is only using a single card, he'll probably go SLi at some point in the future - will the dual 16x PCI-E slots produce a noticable difference?

Cheers again guys.

Fir that sort of miney he can get a really good board.

Having not got 2 gfx cards I can't really say if there is any difference in a single card or with SLI. But others that run it report a noticeable difference, at the end of the day it's worth having the options there.
