I really like Asus Mobo's and i am starting to spec a new pc the boards i like so far are

Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35
Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680

Is it better to go with Striker or P5K with ddr3?
I do intend to over clock although i have not doine it before

Any other suggestions on a mobo would be appreciated

Nick

I am looking at Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600, not sure which memory as it depends on which mobo ddr2 or ddr3.

If you went with the ASUS P5K3 Deluxe WIFI which is the DDR3 version is it backwards compatable with DDR2 until DDR3 is better priced?

no

Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R is DDR3/DDR2, the P5K3 is DDR3 only.

DDR3 need a different slot to DDR2.

No, the "ASUS P5K3 Deluxe WIFI" only supports DDR3, the DDR2 version is the "ASUS P5K Deluxe WIFI" which only takes DDR2. Your better off with this for now as DDR2 is much cheaper and the P35 chipset will support the new 45nm CPUs.

Although if you really want support for both types Asus will be releasing a board (not sure when) called the "Asus P5KC" which supports both DDR2 and DDR3. 4 DDR2 slots and 2 DDR3 slots.

Hope this helps.
