Which mod manager to use?

I didn't start using mods until Fallout 4 a few years back and used Nexus Mod Manager as a mod manager. Worked fine, but it's no longer supported. There's a community-supported version, but of course having no official support does cause some problems.

So I was thinking that I'd keep NMM for the games I already play modded and use a different, currently supported, mod manager for new games I want to play modded.

I initially looked at Vortex, the replacement for NMM, but it's quite different. Since it's a new mod manager, I decided to look around to see if there are others. Mod Organiser 2. OK, I'll look into both.

What I found was a lot of fan war, let's fight! with people on each side saying their preferred mod organiser is wonderful and the other is a horrible UI splodged over a buggy mess that's unreliable and may break your games and is generally poop on a stick. With some of the fans on both sides saying that criticism of their preferred mod manager only comes from people who haven't learned to use it. I don't want to have to learn to use a mod manager - the whole point of a mod manager is extreme ease of use. If I didn't want that, I'd be installing mods manually. Which I do in some cases.

So I thought I'd seek the wisdom of these forums. Which mod organiser is perfect and which is the evil spawn of Satan? Which mod organiser would you recommend and why? Bearing in mind that what I want from a mod organiser is extreme ease of use. NMM provides that, with LOOT run seperately for automatic load order and drag and drop load order changing if I want to. If it was still supported properly I'd had no hesitation in continuing to use it.

I would go with NMM over Vortex for ease of use.

I have switched to using Vortex myself though but it is not a simple program. I presume Nexus have moved to using it for the functions it offers.
It does become easier once you have sorted out the directories and a wizard to help people through it would be most welcome.

I havent used Mod organiser 2. I have used vortex though and it's brilliant, IMO. it took all the headache out of loading mods in the correct order, dependencies and updating mods etc. when i last played skyrim. It pretty much does it all for you. I've no doubt mod organiser 2 is the same, i only picked vortex because that's what Nexus uses now and i had no issues with it :)

Mod Organiser 2 gets my vote. The drag and drop ordering is so much nicer, I never liked the rules system that Vortex uses. Highlighting what mods overwrite and are overwritten by is great. MO2 integrates with Nexus just as well, and has LOOT built in. It is a bit harder to use at first though as there are a few things you have to do differently (eg loading tools (but not BethINI) and launching game through MO2).

@Angilion for Fallout4 / Skyrim Mods, try wabbajack https://www.wabbajack.org/#/

It basically builds clones of full modpacks curated by people and it's basically a few clicks to get it all done for you - very straighforwards with all of the correct mod loading done for you!

https://www.wabbajack.org/#/modlists/gallery for example of the packs that are on there.

I used it for LivingSkyrim and it was a breeze.

Do they have permission from the mod authors to make modpacks?

In any case, I use Nexus mod manager for FO4. I have a lot of mods on FO4 running fine that way so I wouldn't want to change for the sake of change. I don't play Skyrim any more, so tyhat doesn't apply.
