Which modem/router? Is WiFi 6 worth it?

I currently have sky FTTC broadband. Is wifi6 worth it?

I don't have loads spare to spend so for me it's kind of a choice to get a WiFi 6 router or get a modem/router combo without WiFi 6 because my budget won't allow for both.

Obviously it needs to be compatible with sky but I am planning on changing to Plusnet next month but it would be nice to still have the flexibility to go back to sky (MER authentication) if I wanted to.

Thanks for any help

Wifi6 won’t get you much over Wifi5 unless you have LOTS of IoT devices that want to use 1x1 WiFi on 2.4GHz and you have 5GHz WiFi6 devices. Otherwise it will be a bit meh.

If you want to have a cheap play with Wifi6 grab a Huawei AX3 or Honor Router 3. You should be able to pick one up for £30-£40 new and they’re excellent for the money.

I am using eero pro and love them, and they are Wi-Fi 6. Plus wherever you plug in a eero you get 2 gigabit ports to directly plug into. I am using them plugged directly into my Fios ont box for over a year now with not 1 hiccup.

Yeah I've had 2 x Huawei AX3 routers for a year or two now and they've been absolutely rock solid. I once had uptime of about 3 months on one before I had to reboot. I have them hard linked with cat6 between them, one up and one down which covers the whole house. I paid about £30/40 for each one.
