im looking to replace my battered old monitor. a 19" emachine at 1440x900.
monitor will be used mainly for watching tv/movies and the internet. but i do like to game once in a while.
have a 9800gt gpu but will soon be upgrading to something like a 7850 or gtx480.
could someone please recommend me a good monitor up to around £300.
23" or 24" should be plenty big enough as im sat only 1 to 2 foot from the screen.
many thanks:)

No need to spend more than £190 on a Dell u2312HM.
Get you an IPS panel with superior colour uniformity/viewing angles compared to a monitor with a TN-panel but it's fast enough to game on. Comes with excellent Dell service although not quite as excellent as the more expensive models (u2410 and up).
Height adjustable, multiple inputs, full HD what more could you ask for?

I've recently gone 120Hz, i don't need the 3d.... I CAN notice a difference, but mainly if i look for it, and i've gamed perfectly fine on 60Hz since getting it without really taking note of any major differences.

120Hz is nice but not needed (For my eyes anyway)

I'd always go for ips over tn, but that said I have never tried 120hz so can't comment on any benefit, that said the age old arguement is that the human eye can't really perceive motion beyond 60 fps anyway so any perceived benefit of 120hz is just a placebo effect, but as I say having never tried it couldn't really say.

Willagree with Axei, i have that monitor personally and it is very good, I mostly play fps games and I have no issues with ghosting, etc.

you can see the difference when you compare 120 to 65hz but you won't see the difference if you don't put em side by side. You'll just tolerate the sluggish refresh feel as if it's normal.

Once you go 120Hz if you play a lot of FPS games you'll honestly never go back.

have been looking at the Dell UltraSharp U2412M.
it has a higher resolution so am i right in thinking it will have the better picture quality?

Not really. All it does is add the extra string of pixels, which is good (better quality) but the screen is a bit bigger, so technically your not really gaining a huge (if any) increase in picture, plus the price leap is huge when you consider you are gaining an inch....

If your not a gamer ,but watch blu ray films and want to watch 3d blu ray , would you notice any difference between the Benq XL2420 & XL2410 models as one has the new Nvidia vision 2 tech thing ?

Don't personally know a lot about them but if you intend to use nvidia 3d then the 2nd version is meant to be better. I remember hearing good things about the 2410 but haven't heard anything about the 20. That said, I will be the first to admit such things are hardly my area of expertise. But if your not gaming might not a 3d tv be a better idea?

I would have a look here and then here and make up your own mind on that one. One thing to remember about monitors is that there is a lot more to them than specifications or any specific features. When it comes to image performance BenQ have ironed out a lot of the flaws on the XL2410T and the new model is more than worth the difference whether you are remotely interested in 3D Vision 2 or not.
