I'm starting a new job in which everyone gets an Apple Thuderbolt Monitor. As i'm not an apple user I get to pick an alternative monitor!

£900 is quite a chunk of change, I think my personal monitor was only about £200.

So, what's the monitor to have in this brackett?

- I am not a graphical designer
- I am a gamer
- At least 27"

Thanks in advance

I would have thought.....

Acer B326HUL 32" Widescreen LED Professional/Gaming Slim Bezel Flicker @ 390

AOC U3477PQU 34" WideScreen Super-Wide LED @599

BenQ BL3200PT 32" Widescreen LED Professional/Gaming @ 449

Dell UltraSharp U3415W 34" Curved Widescreen LED Monitor @ 779

LG Flatron 34UC87-P 34" WideScreen Super-Wide Curved LED Monitor @ 899

Philips BDM4065UC 40" 4K 60Hz Widescreen LED Monitor @ 689 - My pick!! :D

I'm moving flat soon and i would really like the 40" Philips but the whole of Australia is out of stock :(

So your work is buying you a monitor for personal use? Nice :D

For that money, I would go either for the LG "True 4K", the Dell 34 curved, the LG curved, or the philips 40 inch. But I guess it depends on the kind of games.

I have no problems gaming on the Philips 40 inch, from BF4 to Elite Dangerous, to Dragon Age inquisition.

Only thing about the UHD/4K monitors is the GPU grunt required to run. I manage quite well on sli 970's, but it's not really the territory of single GPU gaming, unless you lower settings a lot.

Thanks for the replies all. To answer some questions

- I think I will avoid 4k. I have two 7850's driving the rig. I've always been a middle of the road graphics user, don't even know what FPS I get in general
- This Freesync stuff wont really affect me, I do game but not as seriously as others.

I think a huge curved panel may be my ticket.....perhaps that LG

I would/did go for the curved Dell over the LG. The LG seems to have a far higher chance of bleed and glow compared to the Dell along with a worse stand and a higher price tag.
