Which monitor size?!

I could use some opinions on monitor size. I'm planning on investing in an OLED but stuck deciding between 27" and 32" (Asus).

My desk isn't massive being only 60cm deep, but it's plenty big enough for me to work and game on, keeping it clutter free. I am currently using a 28" BenQ EL2870u 4K display on a Flexispot monitor arm that's fixed to the desk top. With the desk up against a wall, the display itself is probably about 45-50cm away from the front of the desk and more like 50-60cm away from my eyes. I've found it a good size overall but as you can see, it's a bit in-between sizes when considering the available OLED's. The desk is roughly 120cm wide and there's a desktop PC on the right hand side. All monitor sizes will fit in the available space but the 32" will be getting a bit close to the desktop PC.

Which way would you go here? the 32" is cheaper and usually a bigger screen makes sense but I can't help but feel at this distance, it might be a bit too much. The 27" is only marginally smaller than the 28" I have right now so will likely fit the desk better and may look slightly sharper than the 32" based on pixel density. Both of these Asus OLED's (PG32USCM, PG27UCDM) are a bit deeper than the BenQ I currently have (roughly 74mm and 71mm respectively vs 66mm) so they will both sit slightly closer to me on the monitor arm.

Sorry, forgot to mention I'm looking for a built in KVM to use with a MacBook so I can retire my Caldigit dock and free up a bit more desk space which is why I'm looking at the two Asus monitors. I'm happy with the rest of the feature sets on these screens but just need to figure out which size to go for. The Alienware would have been a good choice otherwise!

I use a 34" monitor, it's around 52CM away, similar setup to you with it mounted on the wall and a 60CM desk. I love it, been using it like this for about 6 years now. It's my work and gaming monitor (I WFH most of the time). Very comfortable and a good size to switch from work to play at 3440x1440.

As I get older I am starting to think of going bigger on OLED to around 40" ultrawide, but not seen a monitor that's tempted me yet.

Personally think the larger would be better, although a lot of that depends on the depth question, if it's much clooser than 45CM I'd argue you likely won't see the benefit of 32 over 27.

Pixel per inch is important, personally I would go below ~100 or you'll see some nasty pixelation/blurring on text so keep that in mind. Current monitor is 109PPI and it's as low as I think I'd ever go!

Sounds like you got a very similar setup to me. I also WFH so I'm at my desk a good amount of hours per day. Interestingly, just checked the physical dimensions of all three monitors and the widths are within about 5cm of each other! the 27" is about 5cm narrower than my 28" and the 32" is about 5cm wider. In that context, the 32" really isn't much wider (2.5cm each side). Seems to be a similar in height between the 28" and 32" with the 27" only being about 2cm shorter (probably because of the slightly thicker bottom bezel on the BenQ).

As you mentioned, pixel density is the thing here. Right now the BenQ is apparently at around 158 so the 32" Asus would be a very slight downgrade at 140, but I'm not sure that would be noticeable going from TN to OLED!

You won't notice that tiny PPI change, but your eyes will thank you for the OLED upgrade.

Since I got an OLED TV downstairs a few weeks ago I've got the bug for getting the monitor upgraded as I spend 8-12 hours 5 days a week staring at it!
