Which Monitor?

Hey chaps,

I'm just after a bit of help with deciding which monitor to get, as I am stuck between two.

The first option is the: BenQ G2420HDBL 24" Widescreen LED Monitor

And the second is: Samsung P2450H 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor

My uses will mainly be gaming but some films and HD video as well.

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Most people seem to favour the Samsung P2450H or the Samsung B2430H (if you can get hold of it), I'm going to be ordering a P2450H this week :)

Just ordered the P2450H. I'd go with that as the image quality is likely to be better than the BenQ. I also think the BenQ is of cheaper construction than the Samsung, and although it is very popular on these forums, it doesn't quite justify its current price tag. If you really want LED backlighting, so be it, but I don't think it makes a lot of difference in this case. In fact, a lot of people complain its way too bright out of the box.

If you want to know why exactly you should look beyond the marketing hype of LED backlighting take a little look over at this thread (and moreover the review it links to).

Aside from that the BenQ is much poorer build quality than the P2450H. It doesn't come across so much in the pictures but once you actually pick it up and place it on your desk it feels more like a toy than a computer monitor. The P2450H is a much more solidly build and frankly gorgeous monitor. It also has superior image performance to the BenQ (specifically the colour gradients and motion due to better dithering and response time algorithms, respectively). I have also been promoting the B2430H and monitors in that series quite a lot recently but now that the P2450H has returned at a much more tempting price I'd be tempted by it if I were you.

Thanks for the speedy replies guys :)

Well after your recommendations, I think it is best if I go with the Samsung- and it's even on offer :)

Thanks for all your help :D

I took PCM2`s advice when it came to the LED/Non LED decision. At the end of the day, an LED screen may be able to give you a tan, but I find that my eyes prefer less aggresive contrast and brightness. The only thing that tempted me about LED screens was the reduced power consumption, and I`m not sure that there`s a lot in it, especially if you don`t run your non LED screen at 100% brightness/contrast settings.

In fact, I`ve been meaning to take a current reading from my p2450, to find out it`s power consumption.

I`ll do it now. Back shortly with the results.........

31.72 watts.

Probably about 10 watts more than an LED screen.

(Did I really just do that ? Sometimes I do wonder about myself).
