Im looking to purchase a new monitor anything from 22-24" in size, tbh have not got a clue about whats good these days and whats not so suggestions are needed.

I currently have a 22" belinea artistline which is about 5+ years old so would like (sadly my girlfriend wont let me say need :D )

Budget is around £250

Thanks in advance

If you game go for a 120Hz TN Monitor. 3D etc is an added bonus and completely optional. I can't remember what IPS monitors are best for but they generally come in a bit more expensive than the TN ones.

You could also consider these (around £220-£250):
Asus VG23AH 23" 3D IPS
Fujitsu P23T-6P FPR 3D

They both use 60Hz passive 3D IPS panels (most probably e-IPS), so no flickering glasses like in active solution (120Hz), which makes the passive solution a better alternative for the eyes. And as far as I can tell, these are the only 3D IPS monitors on the market atm.

Currently every 120Hz solution has a TN panel, which have limitations in image quality and viewing angles. And bear in mind, active 3D requires twice the frames when compared to passive. This means twice the horsepower needed. Although, one of the good things in the active solution is 120Hz in 2D, whereas passive is limited to 60Hz. The other bad thing about passive is that it theoratically halves the vertical resolution in 3D mode for each eye.

Personally, I despise the active solution. One of the better features that LCD technology brought over CRT was the elimination of flickering. With shutter glasses (active solution), they're bringing the CRT's head-ache-inducing 60Hz flicker artificially back to LCDs. Talk about doing things backwards...

PS. If you're wearing glasses, I would recommend the ASUS, as that's advertized as bundling clip-on glasses, in addition to the regular glasses. Also, OCUK doesn't stock the Fujitsu monitor at all. Here's the link to the ASUS in OCUK:

Usually to get 3D, it's either Dual-link DVI-D or HDMI v1.4 or Displayport (any version). But sometimes monitor (or GPU) manufacturers limit the 3D to only one specific port (like apparently the before-mentioned ASUS only has 3D through the HDMI). This means you're better off first deciding on the monitor (and GPU), and THEN getting extra cables (if necessary).

so based on what you have said can some1 take a look at the gpu that i linked up before the ati 5770 and tell me if it can actually do 3D?

Even with semi-modern cards, there's usually at least one of those required ports. Though do note that with ATI, you need a third party software (TriDef or something like that, can't remember. There was another, too, but can't remember that one's name, either...).

edit: Checked it, it has both dual link DVI and Displayport, so you should be good to go (with the third party software, but I don't have much knowledge for that, sorry).
