Which monitors work with game consoles?

I've been wanting to get a 23.6" monitor that works with my PS3 so I can take it upstairs and actually play on it more than once every 3 weeks. The problem is that I can't figure out which ones (if any) will work.

From what I can see, a number of monitors come with HDMI connectors, but none are advertised as HDCP compliant. One screen actually says it works with consoles.

Does this mean that any of the monitors with a HDMI port will work with my PS3? If so, which would be a good budget choice to buy?

You probably want to look a bit further than the shop spec sheets - the manufacturer's websites will say whether the screens are HDCP compliant (the majority are), just do a google of the make/model number and you will be almost there.

HDMI isn't necessarily required - so long as the monitor is HDCP compliant (and has the correct resolution or scaling) then it will work fine with a PS3 via the DVI port - you will just need a cheap HDMI-DVI adapter.

Do you have a budget in mind? If you give us that we can suggest some good monitors.

Please bear in mind that almost all monitors (the good ones anyway) don't come with inbuilt speakers - so you will need to hook the PS3 up to external speakers/headphones.

Ahh, I did wonder if all that was required was HDCP compliance. Another website lists technical specs in far more detail.
Basically I'm looking to spend around £175 max, I'd prefer a HDMI port but not if there is a far superior monitor with HDCP that I can use a HDMI>DVI converter with.

Thanks for telling me about the speakers too. I actually realised this by chance when browsing monitors and noticed one was listed as having speakers. Luckily I knew some friends who had set up their sound systems to work with the PS3, and I gave them a call. I was able to set up an old Sony sound system I had to play though the AV multi.
