Hi,

Im a total novice where PC building is concerned.
However, i have been buying components for the last 4 months and intend to finally put my new PC together in about another 3 months once ive bought all the parts.

So far i have a seagate barracuda 500gb hard-drive, Intel quadcore 2.66ghz q6700 CPU with heatsink & cooler, an ag neovo h-w22 monitor, an lg ggc-h20l blu ray reader, a clio x14 650w PSU and an antec 300 case.

Now im stuck.

I need a motherboard and then a graphics processor - i havent bought any RAM yet either.
It seems from various websites that there are hundreds of different types. Im building this PC for gaming mostly, and i have £350 tops to spend on the MOBO & GPU combined...

ive had the GTX-260 & HD 4870 GPU's recommended to me, and also the Asus P5Q PRO intel P45 MOBO....

can anyone put together these two pieces of the jigsaw for me please, and recommend any others that would better whats been said already, or is the advice i have the best i can get?

Cheers,

Benenhausen

yus you do easy enough through, check the specs of the mobo and match other companents to it.
if the mobo has DDR2 and you brought DDR2 set it is likey to work unless its real ****y about its memory but the P5Q isnt really that fused :P

Loving the quick response on here.seems like the advice is the same.I think I'm gonna buy the gpu 1st and finish with the mobo and ram.
Am I definitely getting a gtx260 and not a hd4870???
P.s. Buying the GPU imminently!!!!

I throught you choosen the gpu already....throught about a intel quad? Q6600? I had one most people have one

for the core 2 duo http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-192-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=793

means I m not a fanboy of ethoir Nvidia or AMD I can't say, but if you look at my sig I have 2*HD4870, I would recomend them, but I am aware of thier driver issues and maybe temp problems but they are lovely cards through

ok.apologies. it seems ive been writing crap with the aid of my iphones small keyboard.

I think its an XCLIO 14 PSU but im still not sure on that!!!

And its a GPU i need - not a CPU.

So i need to know whether a GTX260 or a HD 4870 is the GPU i need???

Hmmm, personally I'd upgrade the power supply before investing in a new graphics card. But in answer to your question, the 260 and 4870 are both brilliant and you can't go wrong with either.
