Bought a new system and need a new gaming mouse. Been reading lots of user reviews here and elsewhere and all three are about equally rated. Which is the most reliable and best value in your opinion? Anyone have the wierd shaped Sidewinder? Thanks

Overall the DeathAdder and the Logitech G5 are the best mice on the market AFAIK. People tend to find the shape of the G9 a bit hit or miss, and I've heard similar things about the MS Sidewinder, which also apparently suffers from not having a grippy coating.

Personally I'd get a DeathAdder or G5. I have both and they rock.

The best thing you can do is to test a few, if necessary just go into your local PC shop at a quiet time and ask to try them. It is the best way to figure out what suits you, some people naturally find they 'fit' one type of mouse. I've got a G7 (basically the wireless G5 and now discontinued sadly) plus an original Intellimouse v3.0 and find them both equally comfortable.

Have you considered the Logitech MX-518? They are renound for being superb gaming mice, I have two and I would one again if I needed to. They are better than G5's imo.

I was wondering whether to post the same thing but he only asked out of those 3. I'm in with you though & recommending the MX518 regardless. Absolute Superb gaming mouse in every way with the bonus of on the fly adjustments which once used makes you wonder how you ever did without them previously.
Also backed up by the Best company in the world when it comes to after sales support.

A mate of mine recently purchased the sidewinder,

And compaired to my logitech G5 (which is awesome) its.. utter tripe imo. I coulnd't say anything about the others but I would avoid the sidewinder.

Although as mentioned go to local pc shop and try a few if you can :)

another vote for the deathadder... but i've use ms intelly i explorers for years, and the feel in the hand is almost identical... the G5 just feels like some random componant in my hand and i cant get used to it.

Best bet id to physically try some mice and see which one feels best for you...

Have a look for reviews on the Ikari Steel series optical mouse, I know two people who own one who absolutely rave about it. There are some reviews about it floating around which also rate it over the deathadder/G9/Sidewinder. I didn't like the feel in my hand. so didn't get one, but worth checking out before you make a final choice..

I went the G5 as it was cheeper ands it's a nice mouse for those of us with larger hands. It also has funky weights so you can get it jst right. I was going to go the Deathadder but i couldn't justify spending the extra cash when i'm not that much of a gamer. Well, not any more. Wasted 3 years playing counter strike. Nuff said :)

All, sorry if this is considered 'highjacking' but i was wondering if anyone uses a mouse pad for greater accuracy? Does it make a difference?

Thanks for the replies everyone. DA sounds like the one. What's their software and support like? Anybody any experience of after sales?

Never had any problems with software and support.

Only thing to mention is that the firmware update needs to be done on a 32bit operating system (if you needed to) but that is the only minor headache.

As for after sales i could not comment as i've never had to send hardware back or query them about anything.

Incidentally i've had a Diamondback, Copperhead, Deathadder and just got a Tarantula keyboard and have found all to perform excellently.

I'd also recommend their Mantis Speed mat. Has worked a treat with every mouse (including saitek and microsoft models) i've used. :)
