Been looking around for a netbook and can't make up my mind!! My maximum budget is around £250. I would love a 12" Netbook but that is way out of my price range.

Right, Netbook has to have at least a 10" TFT and a proper hard drive, say 160g. Seen quite a few reviews etc but stumped as to what to get. Igig of ram is min with the ability to upgrade to 2 gig would be ideal.

Now, which make / model?

Dell, Asus, lenovo ????

Samsung, i think, is out of my budget! Just want the best bang for buck model. Seen the Dell Mini 10v, Asus EEE PC 1005HA, Lenovo Ideapad S10E to name but a few. Really stuck as to which Netbook i should aim for.

As said, it needs to have a 10" screen, the ability to be upgraded to 2gig of memory and have around 160g hard drive.

Any pointers would be great guys. Cheers

i got one (samsung nc10) from a high street catalogue shop for 250 exactly last week.

despite all advertising and web site saying 280.

I think the point of netbooks is to be small, ie 12" is a laptop to me.

Sometimes you can drop on at places when they are trying to purge stock or looking at the B-grade lines, haven't seen a good one for a long time like that though.

Also I think 1GB of RAM is pretty standard for netbooks now, or at least it was when I got my 8.9" 8Gb Acer Aspire ONE for £99 :D

Another vote for the NC10 too, I think is the best option so I will recomend you just continue saving but buy a good netbook as the sammy NC10.
A friend found this site where you can win a free Samsung NC10, you just have to registrate, you can try there's no lose.
Because I think the NC10 and NC20 are the best netbooks in the market.

I give my vote to the NC10. The keyboard is fantastic and it doesn't look as tacky as some of the other netbooks' on the market.

Is the eMachines above a good alternative to a netbook though? I as as i wouldn't mind a bigger screen but also keeping the price down.

It's apples and oranges comparing those two. They're built for completely different purposes. If you want a netbook, the Samsung is pretty much the best choice on the market - I have one and it's brilliant.

When you step up to a 14" machine, you start getting "proper" laptop components - i.e. larger HDD, more memory and separate GFX cards. If you want more features, step up to a larger machine. If you want an ultraportable that sacrifices (some) features for portability, stick with the netbook

ive just bought an acer aspireOne 531 BA-01 for £249.00. in a high street shop with 2yr warranty.
10.1" LED backlit LCD screen, 160gb hd, 1gb ram, winxp, 3g, bluetooth, 6cell battery.

I only bought it today but can report it runs nice and cool compared to a c2d merom 1.73 samsung r20, keyboard takes a little more care to use accurately but i can type quick on it, it's quiet, as snappy as can be expected from the cpu.. seems to handle video well, wifi is reasonably good so far, touchpad is fine. so far played facebook's mmorpg that i use, installed a few lil daily progs, winamp 5.56, comodo suite, divx codec on it and browsed a little bit. typing this on it now, I like this pc although i noticed the windows said something about packard bell

Had previously bought a toshiba nb100 from another high street store for £180. 8.9", linux, 80gb.. the keyboard was nasty, made bad noises when used around the caps lock to ctrl key (they're all like that aparently), it had other things i didn't like... none of this with the acer, i can't fault it yet.

edit: i'm going to watch some BTCC on it later, we'll see how it plays video lol :D

Ok, thanks guys. Just managed to get hold of an almost new Advent 4211c, upgraded, for £100. Mate was selling his as he is off to Australia!! He bought it this year and upgraded the ram and Hard drive. It is in awesome condition!

I've just got an acer 751, and it fine the keyboard is good ,although the performance isnt the best it does what I want, and it runs so cool compared the the dell inpiron 5160 I use to run, no more burnt legs/lap. :)
I can have it sat on my chest while surfing while the misses and kids watch tele.and it lasts just over 4 hours, and I really love the high res screen as well.. it was what sold it to me first.
