which NETBOOK to buy?

i waiting for the next range of notebooks with with win7 and 2gig ram, i had a nc10 for a while and loved it, but buying now seems silly unless its vital, i want one to come with a better spec and win7, rather than having to upgrade the memory and the os when i buy it

next range... when they gonna be?

I think for now it's only asus 1201 yet to be relised (12", atom 300/330, 2gb ram, 250gb, W7 HP) ~$600

Asus 1005HA with windows 7, the extended battery life version, and a 2 gig RAM upgrade. That will keep you going all day and do most of what you want.

One word of warning, netbooks are not great for movies and general multimedia things, and they don't have dvd players. However, I've played BBC I-Player stuff fine with my NC10, in turbo mode (havent tried HD videos).

If you want everything (battery life, performance, mobility), i'd look to spend a bit more (well, twice that) and check out some posh dual-core notebooks, like the Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T. Less presents for Christmas, More laptop for you!

Been looking about for one myself. Had a bad experience with an "advent" clone of a MSI wind, it didn't last a month. The Asus 1005HA is my primary candidate at the moment because
[A] It's £215
It's very pretty! and has a great battery life.

I purchased the 1005HA with the n270 and 6cell 8.5hr battery life last week.

Got to say i am loving it.

I have been getting around 6hrs use with screen turned dont 1 below the min and wifi on. or the same with 3g usb device.

I did get the Acer ao751 with the 11.6" screen and it was returned within 2 days due to crashing bluescreens etcs. Nothing seemed to resolve it.

But i would recommend the 1005HA

AND Great value with the N280 160HD for £213 delivered. I like the White with the black screen surround - never fancied a black keyboard

That's pretty cheap. Was it a special offer?

Yeh it was tbf, some windows nugget had taken it back because "it didn't run windows" apparently.

I got £40-50 off it on managers special. I had a budget of £150, mainly because the idea of the netbook was to be cheap, not £500 because it has a Sony label or something.

you could get an Asus 1008HA for about £250 with XP
- from what I have read XP is still better than win 7 for netbooks + am not convinced with Win 7 starter and only 1gb RAM for a netbook - also haven't seen any deals for any netbook with win 7 starter under £300 and then you would probably fork out some extra dosh for the home premium upgrade and extra ram. For a netbook I would pass tbh.
- it's lightest and thinest i found
- design is one of the nicer ones out there imo
- battery life is good for about 6 hours
- great for surfing web, emailing etc...
- very nice keyboard and good build quality, better than the Acer and Samsung - the only one I was hesitating with was the HP 110 mini, but went for the asus in the end

only bad point really:
- gloss shows finger marks :o (maybe not as much on the white one)
- would have prefered track point (like on my old IBM laptops) rather than touchpad

NB: if you get 2gb of ram be aware that eats battery life. best to keep it light and simple for netbooks

Anyone using a Netbook with Adobe LightRoom and have you managed to calibrate the screen??? Indeed what size screen?

And is this possible in a model costing under £300 ???
