Which new contract? Fed up with O2

As title really, I've just tried to upgrade to the K800i and have been told I'd need to pay £80 basically because my Online 200 @ £30 a month isnt good enough to warrent them to give me the phone for free, dispite them offering it free for new Online 200 customers.

They would only budge £5 discount p/m on the line rental too! So I got their cancellations dept address and they're sending me through a pac code. He said once I give this pac code to the new provider it would automatically cancel the O2 acct? Is this correct?

So what to do next? Been looking around the usual suspects and found that most of them offer the K800 for free on contracts from £20 upwards plus free SMS/Mins etc but I'm not to fussed about anything over 50-100mins and 50 SMS but I would be interested in a large amount of GPRS bandwidth...

T-Mobile offer Web n Walk for £7.50 p/m extra which looks ideal but currently dont offer the K800 on that package, I spoke to them and they said it'll be a few weeks.

Any other companies offer a similar thing?

P.S. I'll be selling the phone and using the Sim in my O2 XDA Mini S, which reminds me. which of them actually lock the phones?!

I think general consensus is that o2 do very little to their phones. I got my k750i a year ago and they branded it with a background and internet icon but that was it, but im pretty sure its not locked to o2.

O2 do make changes to their phones, they are just more subtle and insidious about it than the other networks...

Their current trick is locking the MMS and WAP settings so you can't program another network's settings into the phone, despite the fact the phone's not actually network locked....

m8 fact contracts are pants...grab a genie sim card and top up. ivd done the maths! it beats any contract hands down. i have few unopened ones knocking about email me your addy and i'll post you one :)

A friend of mine at work has just got a new W810i with o2 for £15 per month on the online 200 option, 12 month contract, after phoning up their retentions dept and saying he was gonna cancel as he saw this offer elsewhere. They wouldn't budge at first until he told them to forget it and he would let someone else have his business.

As for the Genie sim, my o2 bill comes in at just below £30 per month with online 200. I tried the pay and go route last year and spent £20 worth of credit in 10 days.

I've just been told exactly the same. £80 to upgrade, £5 permonth of my line rental, making it the same price as their online offer but still having to pay £80 up front.

The daft woman on the phone told me she could throw in some extra minutes just after telling me im not using all my exisiting ones

Time to find a new providor.......

I've just cancelled with o2 and moved too Orange, o2s offer on the k800i was shocking and I've been with them for years.

Packed up and got the K800i for £79.99 and a £20pm 3000 ( yes 3k ) txt as I have no use for free minutes. The phone should be here any minute now.

Did you argue about the cost? They started at £80 with me, ended up £0 ;) - Orange do it for £50 though, and they will price match.

It depends how much you spend per month, over your contract value, other than that, get your PAC :)

Yeah I tried my best, Lady passed me through to a 'special dept' who were the ones who basically offered me the £5 off the line rental, I asked all the questions about why do new customers get better offers, why dont they want to keep existing customers. Even said I would stay if I could only get the phone for free, asked for the PAC code as a last resort and he just said it would be sent.

I've got it now too, Gonna have a good hunt around on Sat.

Is that 3000 texts per year or per month ? If it's per year then it's not that good to be honest. If it's per month however then i'm totally there ! My O2 contact is up next week - i send loads of texts. Probably about 4-500 / month

That's per month, although it does come with no inclusive minutes at all for that price.

If you want minutes and texts, look at the £30 direct plan with a 3g phone, 650 minutes and 1100 texts (along with a free K800i), only downside in some people's eyes is that it's an 18 month contract.

Yep it's 3000 a month. Seeing as I never use the minutes bar for 10 second here and there it wasn't worth me getting any minutes.

Thanks for that Dolph ! Went for the following :

Sony Ericsson K800i free
300 minutes to any network, anytime and 500 texts 30.00
Includes 100 3G cross network minutes for life free
200 x-net anytime mins for life free
1000 extra texts

So if im reading that right, for £30 I get 600 minutes and 1500 texts every month for 18 months. Is that right ? If so, it's a great deal !
