I have the following

Kit lens from the 350D

70-200mm F4 L
17-40 L

I was thinking which one i could get to fill the gap,

After seeing the thread with the images from the 35-135mm Canon, i was thinking of getting that.

What ya think? Would you think i would need it.

Couldn't fine the 35-135m. Is it the 28-135mm you're after?

I'd maybe consider a decent prime to sit in the middle of those lenses.

Either:

50mm f1.8 for £50-£60

or the

50mm f1.4 for £160ish (i have this... wonderful lens)

If you have a monster budget and want something with a range i'd imagine some would suggest something like the 24-105 as that is an excellent lens.

What price range you looking at?

How about something like the Canon 60mm macro or Tamron 90mm macro. They would sit nicely in the focal length gap you have, add a decent macro lens and act as a good solid prime of a flattering portrait length.

Whats the price on these?

Is there any downside to them as in can they only be used for macro work or can they also be used for a general work abut lens if needs be?

Is this the 60mm lens you quoted above?

Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens

If so thats not a bad price tbh

The Tamron is ~£270 and the Canon is about £260. Nope, they can be used up to infinity focus like any other lens. Ive used my Sigma 150mm macro lens for bird photography, candid portraits and airshows and its performed stunningly every time. Think of it more like a good solid prime lens that has the benefit of being able to focus super close, giving you 1:1 magnification. :)

Edit; yup thats the one.

Hmmmm the 2.8 might come in handy for some low light shots, which the 17-40 wont do of course

Hmm might just get this, might check some local camera places to see if they keep stock.

How about a nice F1.4 50mm (great for low light conditions) and a Tamron 28-75 F2.8 as a walkabout. Would be a useful combination.

Yeah i have had my eye on the 50mm for a while, just never got around to getting it to be honest. But it is on the shopping list as well

Yup! :D

Was happy with that little deal i can tell you!

It's a great lens - fast focussing and pin sharp images.

You'd be amazed how dark it can be whilst still using ISO100.

Up it to 400 and you can up the f number a decent amount whilst still retaining 40th-60th shutter speeds!

gt

you seem to have nice set of lenses there, so personally to fill that gap i would up your budget and get the 50mm f1.8 £50ish and the 24-70L £650ish youd be sorted!
