Knew PS4 would win but wasn't expecting it to be that one sided!

Same here!

I wonder if we need another poll asking "Why would you rather get a PS4 than an XBO?". Surely it is not just used games and online requirements making it so one-sided!

Seriously, don't most of us have our consoles permanently connected to the net anyway?!

And it's not like everyone whinges about Steam not allowing second hand game purchases :p

I'll be getting the Xbox One ONLY if they remove the Kinect as a mandatory requirement.

Will it physically not work if the Kinect is not plugged in?

Wow interesting results. More people want to buy both than just the XBONE.

It appears that I'm in the minority for wanting an xbox, though my choice is driven more by controller preference.

I find it surprising that you can make your entire platform choice based on the controller... both of which have had redesigns, and neither of which you have held in your hands yet! :p

Surely we buy the game and we can do what we want with it. Sell it, give it away etc....

Again, this isn't the case on Steam, and everyone bloody loves Steam!

Sony have also explicitly stated that DRM / used game policy decisions lie with the publisher. There is nothing to stop someone like EA / ActiBlizz / etc. from using always online DRM, game activation codes etc. etc.!

i find it surprising you don't care. ;)

You appear to have misquoted me horribly - I did not say that I don't care :)

Sure, it's a factor - but in front of games, features, content etc.?

Not in my eyes.

even full price new AAA games are cheaper on Steam then consoles, and if you wait a few months they generally pop up at 50% less so

The sales are only for older games though! A quick look on Steam is showing CoH2 for £40, Borderlands 2 for £30, Bioshock Infinite for £30 etc.

Console games tank in price a few months after launch as well! I have a raft of PS3 /360games that I paid <£15 for about 4-6 months after launch.

Sure, console games will never be as cheap as PC games - but how're you gonna compare a £600-1000 gaming PC against a £350 PS4 (or indeed a £99 360).

And re. Steam purchases being available 'forever' - what happens if, heaven forbid, Steam goes **** up? What happens to all your purchases then?

I think the distinction between digital purchases on Steam/Origin/etc. and those made on console is a lot, lot less black and white than people are making it out to be.

I had actually secretly hoped that all three console developers would go the way of Steam, and undercut physical media sales with digital downloads tied to an account. Sorry, but it's 2013 - we need to start killing legacy formats....

But they do it today anyway. Online passes are about the extent publishers can go with any form of DRM. Without the console manufacturer implementing it themselves, publishers will be limited to what they do today.

It's fairly easy for them to go a step further though - the game could just install to your console from the physical disc, but then need to be activated via a 'single player pass' - in the same way Steamworks games have to be activated and tied to your Steam account before they will work (Dawn of War 2 for example).

Sony have said that they're actively making sure that publishers can't impose drm on the PS4, saying that they don't want people to pay any more over the price of ps plus to play online :D

This is great news - but really, who has the power here?

Can Sony tell EA to foxtrot oscar if they want to put single player DRM into the next FIFA?

Does EA need Sony, or does Sony need EA...?

(Not trying to troll here, just playing devil's advocate :))
