What should i go for? Im looking at either 6870 or 6850 for

Playback of 3d blu rays
Silent at idle, doesnt matter so much at load.
Capable for games at 1080 at higher gfx settings
I dont mind used
Fanless card is too expensive.

If I drop my 6850s fan speed down to 20-40% it's very quiet.

You can do it in the catalyst drivers anyway so no need for MSI AfterBurner.

But it's a fixed speed no matter the temp. MSI AfterBurner will adjust the fan speed according to the temp.

is the 6870 not worth going for?

does msi afterburner work with non reference cards? i use it with a 6950 in my main system.

i was avoiding reference because i believed that some after market coolers were quieter? [by after market i mean Asus, MSI, Gigabyte etc]

They are, but the stock cooler is pretty quiet anyway

Looks like i missed the 6850 preorder anyway, also i cant xfire on the matx board.

Think i may wait for the 7xxx series now want 6870 perfirmance really

I just put in a 6850 his iceq in my system that I often run tv streaming or movies through to my tv.

Works great and much better then my 5770 did. And the thing is whisper quite ... whisper ...

I havnt done 1080p yet only 720p I assume 1080p would be fine thou. I can tell you my wifes laptop cannot do 720p streamed - I often switch to my computer for the high def stuff. Heck even 480p is tough for her laptop but its just a cheap 4810tz.
