Which notebook cpu?

I have a budget of about 500-550 for a new notebook.
I am curious which processor I should aim to get, it seems to be:
celeron m < pentium m < centrino
And also sempron and turion fit in there somewhere.

I am guessing celeron m (and sempron) are the budget end so if I can stretch to a pentium m then thats better.
Out of those 2, the sempron seems to lead to poor battery life so I would assume celeron m beats the sempron.
Turion is 64 bit? so I guess it makes it a bit harder to compare.

The notebook isn't going to be for gaming particularly, just would like the best bang for buck. Battery life is also a huge bonus for notebooks so I don't want it to guzzle its battery too quick.

If anyone can offer any advice over which CPU to aim for (or a better criteria to judge them on) I would be grateful.

Cheers,
Ric.

Centrino is not a processor. It is what Intel brands its combination of Pentium M or Core CPU with an Intel chipset and Intel WLAN card.
Ah, never realised that. Guess im a sap for their advertising

Dual core is going to blow the budget so do you think I should aim to pick up a pentium-m as they ought be coming down in price with the new tech available?

Do I take it AMD isn't worth it for notebooks? Even with 64bit?

well if you will sell me a yonah notebook for £500 then I will. Otherwise I have to stick to a budget ;)

edit: yonah is both single and dual core cpus?

Intel® Centrino® Mobile Technology with Intel® Core™ Solo Processor T1350 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB)

Isn't that a single core CPU? Fine it seems to be a dual core with a defective core so Intel deactivated it, but is that going to be effectively a single core Yonah?

thanks for that bobbler, actually found a dell dual core for £499.

I dont think I will wait for conroe - isn't that going to be aimed more at performance than battery life? I can't see it coming in on budget either.

I think it will have to be the dell unless I go for something that looks a bit better.

Cheers for your help

Um, what rule was he breaking? That is the first time I've seen that happen.

Have I broken the rule as OCUK sure as heck don't sell a dual core laptop dell laptop for £499?

well I think the dell laptops I am looking at atm are the best priced I have found. For £499 I can 1 gig ram and pentium m or 512 ram and core duo.

The core duo is probably the most appealing, 512 ram is more than enough for day to day business and it can be upgraded more easily than the cpu.

Yeh I'm aware how easy it is to upgrade the memory :D. I wasn't seriosuly suggesting that I would buy the laptop with 1 gig ram and try and upgrade the CPU ;)
I hadn't actually appreciated it was so cheap, of course if they decide to use 2*256 then that makes it some what more expensive to get a gig.
