I am so out of touch with new technology and was wondering whether anyone could shed light on which would be a better gaming machine.

The one system has 2x hd2900's and the other has one nv 8800gtx

Will the crossfire ati's beat the nvidia?

Also I am not going to be running it at insane resolutions probably 1440x900 mostly. Whether or not that makes any difference.

Also should I be going for the prebuilt machines? Or should i buy bits seperately and build my own machine... Anyone care to spec me a machine?

Thanks! Gotta chuck this amd 64 3200 out!

Based on that the GTX and crossfire 2900's will be a big overkill. 8800gt is the best card for that resolution. if you choose to build it yourself then plenty of help available on here, but if you are set on a pre made system then

would be the best, however you could build a Quad core/8800gt system for around that price stomping on the performance of the pre built.

So at the resolution im running i wont see any performance increase with the 8800gtx or the 2900 crossfire? I might also want to run it through my HDTV at 1080i for high def content and the occasional racing game.

I am trying to get the best machine I can afford to avoid having to upgrade for as long as possible.

Can someone spec me a £1000 machine? Interested in what system Sinny means that would stomp on the performance of the pre built.

the gtx is only a bit faster than the gt, and then, only at high resolutions. It's also a lot more expensive. If you want the fastest of the fast you might want to wait a week or 2 for the new 8800gts.
