Ok people, these are the options:

Current shape vauxhall corsa
Current shape peugeot 206
Current shape renault clio
Current or previous shape fiat punto

Im looking for a first car that will take me through uni, so we are talking atleast 4 years here. Want something that is good to drive and has a decent quality interior as some of them are dire.

Just want to know which one out of the 4 you would pick, reccomend particular models of each if you can, but overall just picking one of the 4 would be helpful.

There are only these 4 options on the table at the moment, im trying to get others but im not paying, the parents are ( :D 18th b'day present) so I dont have huge amounts of room to argue with the cars the have offered.

So which would you have and why?

Cheers guys

Fox, those are the only options at the moment because my dads paying and they are what hes suggesting, He thinks a focus is too big for a first car....which we all know is a load of testicles, and that they are the best options when your looking for a car around that size.

I agree, I would like to add the focus and fiesta to the list myself and will certinally go and see/drive some, the micra and yaris im not a fan of but the polo is something I hadn't thought about.

The clio seems to be winning so far, and I think the punto is going to be first off the list. (its the one I would have put at the bottom anyway)

Keep em coming

Edit: Agreeing with Fox, I'd be looking at the new Fiesta. As small cars go, they're really quite nice IMO. Far better than any of the cars in your list. I'm assuming from the current choices that your parents will veto the idea of a Focus.

Im with you guys, I would quite like a fiesta or a focus, but yer as you guessed the focus is "too big" and the fiesta is aparently too expensive for what it is as its a ford......before you comment on that one ....dont worry I intend to show them the truth.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Im gonna try to convince the parents to amend the list to the following:
Old shape focus
pre 2006 fiesta
current shape clio
current shape 206
current shape corsa

The punto is getting removed completley, the corsa and the 206 are still options but not as favourable as the first 3.

So hopefully If we go look at some clios and 206's, I can chip in the fiesta and the focus and sing their praises on a test drive, then they might accept them a little more.

For definate though, my personal first choice would be a focus followed by a fiesta, shame that they have not offered either of those to begin with.

I'd personally ask if I could have an older, slightly larger car in a higher class, rather than a new or nearly new econobox.

An older/larger car will be safer, have more toys, and will likely be quicker and more refined.

If I had to pick one of those - it would probably have to be the Clio, but I'd always be wishing I had an older and better car.

I understand that, and I totally agree with it to be honest.

The bigges I could get would be astra/focus size really.

I dont really like the interior of the astra, although its cheaper than the focus, the focus appeals to me more, just seems a higher quality car.

Ideally I think my first choice would be a focus, im going to push for that, but im going to have a hell of a job convincing the parents its a reasonable first car (which I more than beleive it is to be honest)

They have the old image that a first car must be a tiny little thing with a 1.0litre engine, a tape player and wind up windows

Anyone got any clever ways for me to present the agrument?

tell them you've decided to take your CBT and then you're gonna hop onto a 125CC bike instead of driving a car, because of fuel and insurance costs.

They'll let you have a Focus then.

Thats not a bad idea at all! :p

I think when we go to the dealer, I will sit in every sing car and say oh no this is rubbish, this is awful, dont like this one, this is bad, what a horrible car, then get in the focus....now this ones actually quite good.

Just got to gradually sway them.

It will happen, might just take a while. :o
