ok due a major upgrade and iam thinking of either getting
the dell

or the
samsung

which one is better, i will be using it for a bit of work (but then any old screen would do that) with it main use being games and watching movies/TV on it

also would one 8800gtx be enough to drive it at max res at a good frame rate or should i go for 2

I'd go with the Dell personally. Playing games at that resolution is the only excuse for SLI in my mind, so yes, ideally you'll want two 8800GTX's.

Here's a review of the Dell display which gets compared with the Samsung:

http://www.trustedreviews.com/displays/review/2007/07/18/Dell-UltraSharp-3007WFP-HC-30in-Monitor/p1

This is the final verdict:

The biggest problem with the Dell 3007WFP-HC is that it’s so badly set up out of the box. This screen clearly needs to be properly calibrated, and I’m sure that if it was, it could produce a fine image. But considering that very few buyers will have the equipment needed to calibrate a screen, most users will take it out of the box and use it “as is”.

There’s a lot going for this screen. The design is still good, the stand is well made and easy to adjust, while the USB ports and integrated card reader are a definite bonus. It’s also worth noting that the Dell’s DVI port is HDCP compliant while the Samsung’s is not – not that I’d encourage anyone to watch HD content so massively scaled of course.

At the end of the day though, if image quality is the most important thing to you, and you don’t have the tools and experience to calibrate a monitor properly, the Samsung 305T is a better bet.

i have had 4 dell 3007wfp-hc so far and everyone single one has had pinkish whites from the slight pink to a very bright pink and there is not much you can do about it, even if you wanted to calibrate it. Dell has slipped a lot on quality control.

i am going to sell mine and go with the samsung or wait for samsungs new 30" screen which will have LED back light toward the end of the year.
