hey guys,

im abit confused, im monitoring my CPU temps to help stabilize my overclock and to see how much room i have for a little more mhz lol

anyway this is my problem, im using a asus crosshair v formula z motherboard which has the ASUS AI Suite 2, so im using this to monitor my temps, but i also downloaded core temp to double check the temps are the same with that too, turns out the they give me totally different temps, one says im idling at 12deg the other says im idling at 26deg :/

so which app should i rely on? i dont want to cook my FX 8320 but i also want to get the most out of it

im using a corsair H80i in push pull with SP120 QE fans on full speed and my FX8320 is as 4.5ghz atm.

could you guys make a list of what apps are the best for helping me get the most out of my FX 8320, i may even get a corsair h105 to keep the temps abit more tame, or is this a stupid idea and not worth the investment?

any advice would be appreciated, thanks :)

I think i'm right in saying that temp apps such as coretemp are not accurate for AMD chips, from what i've read in the past anyway.

If you want your true temp i'd stick with your bios and maybe that Asus suite might have it right also.

Froom what I've read, Idle temps are misreported, and they are not important anyway. What is important it the full laod temp.

CoreTemp does give the corect socket temp for my 8350, but if you want to be 100% sure, just downlaod AMD overdive. That gives a "thermal margin" value, and when that is down to zero, you are at maximum temp :-)

I have only been using the Corsair SW with my H80i and PSU to report cpu temps as I did check this with the Asus AI SW and they were almost the same ( within 1 Deg ) your 26deg sounds about right I am sitting on 28/29deg at 4.8Ghz on my 8350 and this room is always quite warm, what are your load temps like ?

i had a quick look at my idle temps before i went to work, my FX 8320 is at 4.6ghz with i think 1.38v could be lower im not sure, but anyway its idles at around 28-29deg according to ASUS AI suite 2.

btw, would it be worth investing in a h105 to replace my h80i? i will keep the h80i as a spare, but i dont think my h80i is quite up to the job really, i wanted to push the FX chip to around 4.8 :(

amd chip sensors are apparently very inaccurate at low temps and idle temps are not important any way its the load temps u need to worry about
