need some decent clocking RAM. now the g.skill HZ stuff is way too expensive but all these can be had for £170 and below

2Gb G.Skill DDR2 PC2-6400 NR
2Gb G.Skill DDR2 PC2-6400 PK
2Gb Mushkin DDR2 EM2-6400
2Gb Patriot DDR2 PC2-7200
2Gb OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400
2Gb OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400

need something that can hit 400mhz without hitting more than 2.3v preferably

i tried to check xtremesystems etc but the NR/PK etc cant be searched for :(

Well all of them will run at 400 at no more than 2.1v. That's stock speed for pc6400. The ones that are CAS4 will have more chance of getting to 500.

checked and it seems that 6400 ddr2 is 200mhz 'real', ignoring this quad pumped nonsense.

would ram this slow be able to overclock to twice it's rated speed? (400mhz - real)?

PC2-6400 is 400 Mhz frequency not 200 (800 Mhz effective, cos it is DDR, double data rate RAM).

For example, most Core 2 Duo chips have a default clock of 266 (1066 quad pumped) and only require PC2-4300 (266 frequency, 533 Mhz effective) to be run in sync with the FSB.

pc6400 is 400Mhz real, doubled to 800mhz as it's double Data rate.

If you set your fsb to 400, and the RAM divider to 1:1, your pc6400 will run at 800Mhz.

ta guys :)

this whole multiplication thing with intel andd ddr2 is a PITA!

amd and ddr was sooooo much easier :o
