Hi I'm looking at the following options for a new monitor. I am as usual suffering from information overload so i thought i'd ask your opinions :)

My choices so far are -

Dell U2711 - Link removed

ASUS PB278Q - Link removed

OR one of these Korean screens off ebay - Link removed

I will use this monitor primarily for photography and design using Photoshop so good calibration is the most important thing. I wont be playing games so speed isn't an issue. I don't want to spend more than £400, 500 tops.

I know there have been a million threads about the korean monitors but would value peoples opinion that have these and live in the uk. I would also like to know peoples experience calibrating one of these.
If you totally hate the idea of the korean option i would love to know peoples experiences of the dell and asus, or any other screen?!?!? I would be prepared to look at a 24" screen but no smaller.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Hi. I have commented on a few threads about the Asus.

It is an outstanding monitor and I loved mine.

Colour reproduction was exquisite and the presets were very good.

I use mine mostly for gaming and blu rays and for this it is excellent but unfortunately can't help you on the photo work aspect.
All I will say is that I am a keen amateur photographer myself but not into editing or design etc but I keep my photos on slide show as my desktop background on Windows and they REALLY came to life on this monitor, stood out so much.

The Asus comes with a 'semi gloss' panel which helps with photos a lot compared to the Dell which has a fairly substantial anti-glare coating which tones down the images from what I understand.
I haven't seen or used the Dell so can't comment on it really.

All in all the Asus represents tremendous value for money.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I'm glad you like the asus I've been leaning towards it generally. It's this korean screen that has stopped me buying the asus this weekend to be honest. I think i would be willing to take the risk with a korean model if i knew it could be calibrated using a spyder or something similar. So if anyone has experience of this? Also any opinions on the dell would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Have to agree with Gmac, have the asus myself, only had it since xmas but absolutely loving it, using it for gaming and have my blu ray player hooked into it , was a great buy, I was somewhat hesitant like yourself as theres a lot of monitors on the market and didnt know what was the best for my use, but from personal use Id say you cant go far wrong with the asus

I'm not 100% sure, I think it's ~16ms or so.

What I do know is that I didn't experience any input lag at all when playing Crysis 2/BF3/Far Cry 3.

I was hoping to get a 24" IPS with lower input lag than my current monitor which is a NEC 20wgx2 and its about 16ms as well.
