Hey all,

I'm torn... I need a new PC, but can't decide whether to spend more on a better spec, or cut a few corners and downgrade bits. I don't do a great deal of gaming and generally want a quick PC that can run everything quickly. I use photo editing software, downloading, music / video playback, basic gaming (not fussed about maximum fps, etc)...

Better spec:

Case - Coolermaster 330
Memory - OCZ 4GB 800MHz
Processor Core2Duo Q8400 3.0GHz
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EP43-S3L iP43
PSU -Coolermaster RealPower 520W Modular
Hard Drive - Samsung Spinpoint F1 640GB
Monitor - LG W2042S-SF 20" TFT
Graphics - Asus HD4850
DVD RW - LG 22X SATA DVD-RW
Cooling fans - 120mm Akasa
Keyboard - Logitech Ultra-flat
Speakers - Logictech X-140

TOTAL: £675

Lower spec:

Case - Coolermaster 330 with Coolermaster 450W PSU
Memory - OCZ 4GB 800MHz
Processor Core2Duo Q7500 2.93GHz
Motherboard - Gigabyte iG31
PSU - with case
Hard Drive - WD 320GB
Monitor - Acer 19" TFT
Graphics - Sapphire 4830 512MB
DVD RW - LG 22X SATA DVD-RW
Cooling fans - 120mm Xilence Red
Keyboard - Microsoft basic
Speakers - Trust 2.0 speakers

TOTAL: £520

I suppose I'd like to know what the key differences are going to be to a noob, and if there is a good compromise between the two. Any money saved goes towards a much needed new bed...!

Cheers muchly :)

Lol, I think to be fair I'm already sold on the top one... as I approach ordering day I'm starting to realise what other, more responsible, things I could spend the money on!

Will I notice the difference significantly enough to justify it?

Bottom one. If anything the 4830 is easily more than enough for the kind of gaming you list.
I would get the monitor from the top one though, always worth investing a bit more in a nice monitor.
