Coolermaster Elite 335 Case - Black (No PSU)

Total : £680.47 (with delivery)

how do these stack up?
sure,i can tell right now that everyones going to say the i7 is faster....
but just how much faster?
im no pro,nor am i a heavy gamer.
so in photoshop cs3,is the i7 going to perform that much better?
example:
im going to open 20photographs i ve taken at 5mb per image

is the i7 going to be a lot faster? or are we talking roughly 10seconds?

i ve narrowed it down to these two builds (pretty much)
but i need to decide before this deal is up.

thank you

Well, the i7 should give you an edge in photoshop in part thanks to hyperthreading. I couldnt tell you how much though :(

Will you be building this yourself? (sorry your post seemed a tad ambiguous as you posted a pre-build and a bundle..)

EDIT: THG (link) shows a substantial difference in CS4 at stock speeds. Unfortunately it's difficult to estimate performance gains in O/C but my guesses:

With the i7 920 running at 3.6GHz (most people who overclock go to about 4.0), you would expect an increase above and beyond the i7 975 EE (they're basically the same chip after all).

With the Phenom II 955 running at 3.8GHz, one could guess it would go something like (955 time) - 4 * [(955 time) - (965 time)] which comes to about 136 seconds by THG's benchmark.

Given that the i7 975 slams this easily at 98 seconds in their benchmark, you'd be even better off with the i7 920 @3.6.. Would seem that your intel build is the way to go in that case

(remember that this is a bit of guesstimation based on the numbers in the chart. Also, those numbers are CS4 not CS3)

i will yes
sorry should have said.

if its already prebuilt.good. if its a bundle i ll just add what i need to it.
id like it pre-overclocked though as i dont want to fiddle with all that

i ve seen benchmarks for i7 vs amd.
im looking for people with similar builds to this to maybe let me know.

cheers

Id be surprised if anyone who mainly uses there pc for such tasks as this will be running and AMD. ?? I would say they're all using Intel.

Im not into photo shop so can help out on this really. However know some about general cpu's. Neither of what you listed is slow at all. They will both do what you require at a good speed. The I7 providing a noticeable difference. This is probably AMD's not so good field to be honest.

However noticeable difference could mean 30 seconds difference. It could mean more.

Best of luck

is that i7 deal a good deal? I see basically i should steer clear from amd for photoshop work

Hi Kickmaass ,

Yeah , that seems reasonable to me. £800 right. The rigs over-clocked before dispatch too. You could probably build one slightly better spec out of individual components but thats more work.

Please , i am not an expert on photoshop so would recommend you continue here and hope for more responses from users in the same work area to get some real situation feedback.
I am very aware of photoshop programs and have read much of late regarding the new CPU releases in reviews etc. EG i7 , i5 , Phenom 2 series. It showed gains on the Intel cpu's. How massively significant i cannot be precise. But most who do such usually look for something intel with HT and a decent ability to clock. :D

I wish you luck.

You are most Welcome Kickaass.

I did quite well with mine really. I had things like the PSU , Graphics card , 4TB hard drives already. They were migrated from my previous build.

The cost for the rest of the build was £675. Which is a fair amount bearing in mind the parts I already had. The handy thing was I managed to sell off my old system components for around £270.

So actual outlay is probably only £405. :D I was lucky as my old stuff was still worth a bit. Also fair to note the i7 parts and ram were cheaper. They have all gone up now a few ££££ now. Especially with the release of the i5 1156 too.
