Hi, Im after a new pc for Gaming. I will be using a 22” Widescreen and will want 4GB of memory (so CPU speeds might need to be reduced slightly in some cases) and I have narrowed it down to these two options. . . .

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Option 1 - This is from the Overclocked section (it’s a bundle) but just pay attention to the PC spec.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-052-OK

Summary:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 GO 2.40GHz Quad Core CPU Overclocked too a minimum of 3.30GHz and beyond. However (Note when upgrading to 4GB overclock drops to 3.00GHz on CPU) So it will be 3.0GHz

Memory: Corsair 2GB PC2-6400 CAS4 (2x1GB) Dual Channel Kit (Overclocked at 850MHz+)

Graphics: NVIDIA 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) DirectX 10 Graphics Card

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Option 2 – This is from the Overclocked SLi section

Summary:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 GO 2.40GHz Quad Core CPU Overclocked too a minimum of 3.00GHz and beyond.

Memory: GeIL 2GB PC2-6400 CAS4 (2x1GB) Dual Channel Kit (Overclocked at 800MHz+)

Graphics: 2x NVIDIA 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) DirectX 10 Graphics Card configured in SLi

------------------------------------------------------------------------

So basically both Systems will be running at 3.0GHz, Option 1 is Single NVIDIA 8800 GT Graphics card and slightly faster memory, and Option 2 is Dual SLi NVIDIA 8800 GT Graphics cards.

Which would be the better gaming System?

Thanks for all your help, I feel like such a noob! I haven’t bought a new pc for about 4+ years and I haven’t kept up with technology, everything has moved on so much and I feel completely lost these days with all this Q660 Quad Core Duo 64 bit stuff lol.

Also, to take full advantage of the Quad Core processor / Dual SLi, what operating system would I need? Vista 64 bit? Or 32 bit? Etc

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums, the second option should be the quickest as the additional power from the second graphics card ought to more than compensate for the slightly slower Ram. However when including the monitor, keyboard, mouse etc it will cost more so no great surprise that it should be faster.

Can you not build your own, save money, and get a better spec? It's really not that difficult, a lot of people build PC's for the first time with little/no problems. :)

Agreed. If you can build your own its better to do that. Alternately if you know someone who can do it for you, ask them how much they would do it for and spec your own rig, which chances are will be better for your needs.

Thanks for your help guys, I'll definatly be getting the Dual setup.

What operating system would you reccomend with quad core & dual card setup? Windows Vista 64 ? Windows XP 64? Premium editions or just basic?

Thanks again :)

P.s I have built my own PC's in the past, but Im so clueless with PC components these days & compatability issues & knowing whats good & whats not, I just decided I'd buy one all ready sorted.

I'd suggest Vista 64bit Premium, particularly if you are getting 4gb of Ram, Basic edition skips the prettiness of Aero and misses out a couple more features I think so doesn't really seem worthwhile to me although you can upgrade later to Premium I believe.

Would it not then just be sensible to ask the forum for help in speccing you a decent rig for a specific budget that you can build yourself? :)
