Hi guys,

Im looking to upgrade my graphics card and after reading about a bit it seemed like i needed atleast a 450W PSU to run the sort of card i wanted properly (GTS250/HD4870).

Now i really didn't do my background research and just went out and bought a 450W from ebay, i was told CWT was an 'okay' make to buy but the thing looks ancient and dosen't even have a PCI-E connector on it where as my older one does.

So basically, i think that my old PSU will run the graphics card okay and the other one i bought i should just chuck. I just want some re-assurance from someone that actually knows what they are talking about :p

Here are the labels on the side of either PSU:

PSU currently in my machine:

Any comments would be great, even if they are ones calling me an idiot..
thanks, matt.

your old nes much better, though when you can afford it id recomend buying a proper quality one from here, whoever sold you the new one was talking ****, for starters it s only 250W max output at 20A which is way too low, Id try and get my money back as what theyve given you clearly isnt what they claimed it to be, never heard of CWT either
use yours for now, and when you can afford buy something from here

I thought so, thanks.
Should i buy a beeter one before i buy a new card? if so do you have any reccomendations?

matt.

Your older one is slightly better, since it has more amps on the 12v lines, which is one of the most important factors in quality PSU's these days - your graphics card will "drink" from here so to speak. However, I would try and buy a proper PSU this time, since the one you purchased seems dodgy :P.
So go for something like a Corsair 520/620 or OCZ 500/600 (Both of which are regarded highly here and are quite reasonably priced considering their specifications)

your old one should be able to cope, depends how old it is thoguh, as they lose power over time about 20% after 3 years i think
re new one it depends what your budget is, 450-500W min, the 450W Corsair is decent

Firstly what possesed you to buy that PSU & I agree with the other posts go get yourself a proper brand PSU it's one area cost cutting should be avoided a nice corsair would do lovely

Regards JP
