Howdy All,

I am looking at buying office 365 tomorrow night for myself. It will be used in my home but technically it will be for business purposes. Would I be able to purchase the home edition of 365 or would I have to buy business edition to be 'legal'?

It does clearly state 'non-commercial use' on the site when looking to purchase the home edition. Should I be bothered about this?

Also, is 365 really as good of a deal as it states? I am really after using Word, Excel and Access but for the price of 2013 individually I can't fault 365 from what I can see.

Thoughts?

Surely it all depends on whether you want to abide by the conditions of the license agreement that you accept when you buy. Business use -> buy the business edition!

I'd say it depends also what type of business, sole trader or limited company. If using w8 with user names tied to microsoft accounts like '[email protected]' to log in to w8, then business but a sole trader or if using a normal microsoft account like [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected] you could go with home version.

Are you referring to business use as in your own company or just bringing work home with you from your job in someone elses business?

If you only need it for yourself on 1 device, the small business plan works out a lot cheaper.

It would be my business, so self employed. The business does not exist yet but will do in the months ahead. I would be bringing others into the business at some point too so I would just be able to add them onto my plan I suppose.

I am tempted by the Small Business Plan actually. I assume that comes with all the applications I need including Access etc?

Well I would have made my purchase by now but the MS website is being stupid and keeps crashing. :(

EDIT: After a talk with the better half and her wanting Home edition soon, I am trialling the home edition now and I will use it until I have a signed business. I think that's the best way for me.

Thanks for all the help!

I have 365 I love it tbh but then I paid £2.99 for a years subscription to home premium thanks to Microsoft and working for a licensed reseller.

Think so too. Once your business is set up I assume you'll want a web site, even if not straight away its a good idea to register domain names that match your business name and shorter versions like the initials of your company name. Once thats done you can set up a microsoft account using your own domain name and purchase office through that and create new users through your account. Microsoft store is also on topcashback.
