Hi guys, as i have run into some sort of problem with my P5E (won't clock past 400fsb) i am leaning towards getting a P45 board to have a play with. I now have a short list of three and there is not much in the way of reviews on them on the usual hardware sites so would like some experiences of user's who actually have used them. The rest of my rig is the same as in my siggy.

The three are:-

Asus P5Q Pro.

DFI Lanparty DK-P45-T2RS Plus.

Gigabyte GA-EP45 Extreme.

Seen some amazing clocks on the DFI and seen a couple of half decent reviews. Always fancied having a go with a board from the legendary DFI. I can get it for £103.

The Asus is pretty well reported on here and is a bargain at £95 but how good is it with a E0 E8500? Any problems to be aware of?

The Gigabyte would be from here as it's a good £35-45 cheaper than everywhere else. Seen some good reviews on this board but they all complain about the layout. Mainly the proximity of the ram slots to the graphics card slot. Stupid positioning really. The DFI wins on that front as they swapped the pci-e 1x and 16x slots around. Another problem is the IDE location but that does'nt really matter to me as all my drives are sata.

So what do you think? Anybody with these boards and a similar setup to me? Your opinions will be much appreciated.

If you will go for Asus, go for P5Q Deluxe ...

I bought the Gigabyte GA-P45-UD3P and I think it's great. Absolute pleasure to work with and clock with. Does everything I want it to quite ably and the layout is really good (notably better than the Extreme). I might even go so far as to say I'm now a fan of GB after poor experiences with Asus recently (and not having the skills to handle a DFI).

Thanks for the replies. At the moment a change is on hold. I have now got my P5E up to 500fsb. It appears that Asus has yet again broken the memory dividers in the last two bios releases. I can now only run with the 333 divider. Currently priming at 4.5Ghz albeit with a lower than normal memory speed.

I'm going to be getting a DFI P45 DK because of the huge amount of tweakable options, plus I've always been happy with my previous DFI boards.

It will be interesting to see how you get on with it. Would you be so kind as to post your opinions when you have it? Not much get's written about these boards as everyone raves on about the P5Q series.

I chose Gigabyte simply because of their good RMA service if anything goes wrong, turnaround is a few days.

Asus is 6 to 8 weeks - ridiculous.

You guys with the Gigabyte, how much of a pain in the butt is the closeness of the ram to the top pci-e slot?

What sort of clocks and what cpu's are you using?

Not a pain at all for me with an HD3870 512MB.

See my sig. Running at 8x400 (3.2ghz) Q6600 1.21v (stock). Will be using the 9x multi after this - I'm only going up to 400mhz Bus because the board is rated for it and does this at stock voltages - saves me time when clocking. 3.6ghz should be sufficient for me - I'll go further when I can be bothered.
