hi folks

well got a little situation here , i had to buy a replacement mobo the other day there and i seen one with a QX6850 coming with it for quite cheap, so i got it just for the sake of it.

so now ive got a Q6600 lying around. but ive been reading some posts around the net and apparently the QX6850 and the Q6600 perform around the same.

is this true? I mean i could overclock the Q6600 to 3.6ghz and i guess that would do for most thing that you do on a pc.

so what you guys think? is there much of a difference? , i know that the QX6850 is unlocked but i aint got watercooling so it isnt getting overclocked to its full potential lol.

i know that id get more monies for the QX6850 than i would for the Q6600 since a lot of people spend that little extra for the extreme name lol.

sorry for the long paragraph

any thoughts , advice would be helpfull.

You wouldn't get it to reach it's full overclocking potential unless you used liquid nitrogen... or did it in space. If you already have it then it's pointless going for the Q6850, it's a good enough chip and the difference is minimal.

Oh right, i didn't understand the question :p

I'd say the 6850, the unlocked multiplier makes overclocking easier. And also if you don't, it's got a much higher stock speed. For performance for you, stick with it. For a few extra quid, stick with the 6600. In the end it's your choice, which one do you prefer using?

Sell the qx6850 on ebay with a suitably worded description to fool the ignorant. The chips are about the same, it doesn't really matter which one goes. They'd sell for the same amount were you selling to this audience, so it rather depends where you try to sell it. How much did you pay for it out of interest?

well i got it with an asus blitz formula special edition mobo and 4 gig of corsair dominators PC28500C5D , and a swiftech waterblock. all for £210 ,

i really needed a replacement mobo and i seen that lot i just decided to bid.

but ive seen people getting around £180+ just for the QX6850 itself

That's not bad. Is that an x38 board? Not sure they like quads much if it is.

Sell the waterblock and the qx6850 definitely, if you're lucky you'll break the 210 mark :D

Think its a P35 mobo , for what it is i quite like it . its treating me better than my DFI lanparty DK X38 mobo which suddenly stopped working properly after a few months lying around . even though the last time i used it , it was working fine lol
