Out of interest... What are the prerequisites to getting a test drive in something like an F-Type?

Certain skin colour or dress code or age?! Or does it depend on the car you show up in?

lol. Grange Jaguar in Brentwood is where I went. They were very good there, pretty much one of the most helpful and friendly dealerships I've experienced.

I have a big thing about the Cayman - have nearly bought one on several occassions; but the practical and sensible head goes on and I get a sports hatch. So for me it would have to be the Jaggg.

If I had the choice it would be GTR as top notch performance, handling coupled by tech is what I focus on when choosing a car it creates the bigger grins! :D :D :D for me ; That said the Jag is leaps ahead when it comes to class, styling , quality and pedigree it makes the Datsun look cheap in comparison.

Just my opinion..

I'd be buying a house if I was you.

I've spent the last few years building up a decent house deposit, and whilst its a shame I don't have the S2000 anymore - appreciating this is a TOTALLY different class of vehicle to what you are looking it - I couldn't justify keeping it and having cash on credit cards/loan etc.

Debt free, close to 20% house deposit = better mortgage choice & rates. You'll be paying the mortgage for the next 20-30-40 years, so having that monthly payment as low as possible enables 20-30-40 years of fun purchases.....

That's my logic at least ! I'd just have your Jag and M3 if you don't have a place of your own yet. Once you've smashed some cash off the mortgage, come and look at this again.

I would imagine most people looking at upto £80k on a sports car are already gonna have their mortgage all set-up, and probably a good chunk of the way through it to be fair. I know I'm looking at being around 50% through the payments at least before I consider going for my DB9.

Out of the three, it is a difficult one. The GTR will destroy in outright performance. The Porsche is gonna be a beauty to drive, very capable, but I voted for the Jag. It's got the most class out of the three.

Must be close to Aston Martin Vantage money there though. Not gonna have the rear seats admittedly, but will be a hugely fun little car, and a bit more class than these three.

This is Conanious' point, Gibbo doesn't have this in place, otherwise it wouldn't have been brought up.

Same here 5 years ago I had 40k burning a hole in my pocket. I even test drove a GTR but that was when the dream ended. We bought a house and the large deposit means our mortgage is tiny. Now I am running a fleet of 3 cars and have a 20 year old rally rep to play about with. Should be mortgage free by my mid 40's so I can have my mid life crisis car by then :D.

House prices are starting to creep up now too. Also do not forget all the money you are wasting giving to your landlord for rent!

I'd go with the Porsche personally. Fully customisable to the buyers needs, german quality, and a drivers car.
The Jag looks nice but noooooo.
The GTR I'm sure is fast but never been a fan of them personally.
The Porsche likely to be the best 'drivers car' out of the three IMO which is what I would want in a high performance car (GTR has always been a bit too gadgety for me). Probably the lightest of the three too which to me is important.

I've considered a Cayman a few times (Cayman R or new S) and would be very top of a very short list should I/when I want a performance car again

I'm assuming driving in with a GT3 would be a good start :D

Got offered a test drive in an F-Type by my local Jag dealer (Evans Halshaw) recently, I'd just parked my 2000 e46 325i in their car park, the only reason I was there was my wife was having a meeting at the agency she works for which is opposite the dealer, I even told the salesman this, he wasn't bothered and was happy to help me kill the 20min I was waiting for her!

Great bloke, he said to come back when I had more time and he would let me have a go!(which I will!), he also said he'd learned over the years not to judge a sale by what the prospective punter turns up in which I thought an interesting attitude! - I'm sure a GT3 can't hurt chances though!! :D
