Hi, looking at a new machine and wondering which of these CPU's would be faster???

AMD Athlon X2 4800 Dual Core San Diego (Socket 939) Dual DDR400 CPU

or

AMD Athlon 64 FX57 San Diego (Socket 939) Dual DDR400 CPU*

Id go for tyhe dual core definatley, but in the short term it wont be faster at a particular app, but you can do lots of things at once and once stuff is multi threaded itl wipe the floor with the fx57

4800+ is the one to go for. Spending £500 on single core seems worthless when you have dual core these days.

Most people will tell you to get the 4400+ and overclock it, but it's your choice at the end of the day.
