i need a graphics card, i want to play all the lastest first person shooters how much would i need to spend on graphics card to get the best out of the game, i will be getting a 2gig twin pack of geil ddr2 ram, core2duo e6300. will the prices of graphics cards be coming down soon?

Don't ask wether ATI is better than Nvidia or vice-versa as this thread will go to hell in a handbasket very quickly. Both have their good and bad sides, so there is always choice whatever you do.

Best thing to do first is set a budget for yourself. What do you think is a sensible amount to spend on a graphics card? £100-£150, £150-£200, £200-£250, £300+? From there we can start suggesting something to suit you.

It'll last a long time. :) I don't plan to upgrade my X1900XT 512MB until this time next year, and that's at the earliest. It's going to see me right through until the refreshes of G80 and R600 are out and down to £199. :D

To be fair, there isn't anything better than a X1900XT 512 for that money.

So if it struggles with new games which it probably won't then there isn't much you can do about it.
