HI

I'm looking for a new graphics card as an upgrade to my onboard graphics. I need something that has DVI output as I have this facility on my LCD and would like to utilise it.

I'm looking to spend as least as possible and very rarely play any graphics intensive games - maybe the odd footy management game. I watch a lot of films on my PC but the current 256Mb on board works good enough so I dont need much of an upgrade.

I currently have 256Mb on board so I guess I would be looking for around 512 off the card (the full 512Mb , not 256Mb card/256Mb shared internal memory)

Can anyone suggest some recommendations?

Cheers!

Why do you want more video memory if you never play any games and only watch movies?

Do you just want to be able to use the DVI and not have to share memory with the onboard? It is pointless getting 512MB of memory on a cheap card, I'm a little confused.

Yeah, I only want to use DVI which is why I need a new card (no onbard DVI). I wondered what the difference is in price between 256 and 512. If it isnt much then I would opt for 512 as I would be gutted if I DID decide one day to play a game and found my card to not be up to he job. I'm not into Doom kind of games, more Flight Sims or Pro Evo Soccer. I dont know how graphics intensive these are but I defo wouldnt class myslef as a high end gamer.

Sorry, yeah, it's for PCI-express slot not AGP.

Get a 6200LE tbh... :/

If you do want something with slight gaming potential then as mentioned above, go for the 7600GT. I've just bought one after my 7800GTX died as was preparing myself for a horrific gaming experience, but they really are top notch. For £100 it's hard to see anyone buying anything else. :)

It doesn't matter if the card has 512MB of memory when the video processor is incapable of making use of it, which (depending on resolution and settings) applies to most cards below about £120 (e.g. a 7300 GT with 512MB of video memory will still be a lot slower than a 7600 GT with 256MB of video memory).

If you get a 7600 GT as suggested above it would be a massive upgrade from onboard and capable of playing any game out (providing you have enough CPU power and system memory), though yes it does also only have 256MB of video memory (onboard not stolen from system memory).

You should also be aware that for many monitors there is little difference between DVI and VGA connections so I'd hope you can at least make use of the upgrade in a few games if that is the case for you too.
