Which one?

Personally I'd get the BenQ as you get a lot more bang for your buck. There are some complaints about the Acer (especially when you compare it to the Dell Alienware 120Hz screen) including poor black levels, adjustability and backlight buzzing. Although you'd probably be happy with it (and I'm sure there are many happy users of this monitor) you have to consider whether it's really worth the £300. A lot of reviews of the Acer are disappointingly brief or are biased as they are user reviews from somebody who has just spent £300 on a monitor and don't want to bash it. I have used the Acer GD245HQ and found the contrast to be a little lacklustre. Blacks appeared a bit blueish even at low brightness levels and whites were not as brilliant as they could've been (appearing a bit dirty). Overall though it was exceptionally responsive and the image quality was more than decent - but the responsiveness itself was not worlds apart from certain 60Hz TN panels I have used and I am very sensitive about ghosting.

I haven't used the BenQ unfortunately (although I will be reviewing a simlar screen from BenQ shortly) although if you do go for the BenQ you won't feel so hard done by a few years down the line when OLED monitors start hitting the mainstream. ;)

just a update my Asus GD 245 HQ has arrived and im amazed to be frank.

Games are super super smooth now with the 120HZ with Vsync on i can now play games past the 60fps mark.

Picture is so clear and crisp and my early impressions are this is the single best upgrade ive invested in for years a better upgrade that my ssd.

Films also looks super clear and crisp and i haven't really messed around with any of the monitors settings yet.

Cant comment on the 3D side as i havent bought the equipment to use this feature.

The only thing that will take some getting used to is coming from a 1920 by 1200 monitor to a 1920 by 1080.

As for comparing the Alienware 120hz screen from reviews ive read it doesnt read up that its worth £140 more than the GD245HQ

When i bought this i had my doubts if this monitor would be as good as i hoped, but i can say im very very happy i bought this superb!.

Edit: No backlight buzzing and contrast is very good.

Blacks are also very black and not blue

Thanks for your review - glad you're happy :). I will see if I can get ahold of one for a proper review. Does anybody who owns the GD245HQ have a light meter to measure the black levels (without dynamic contrast enabled)?

It isn't that the blacks are visibly very blue at all. If you turn the screen off after you've made it display an entirely black screen (dynamic contrast disabled) you'll see the difference between "true black" and the outputted black. The blacks were by no means poor on the screen I tested, but for the same price you can get slightly better. There is of course individual variation between screens of the same model so I could've just been playing with a duff! :p

PCM2 my post was hardly a review, it was my early impressions of the screen as for getting a proper review im not sure if thats a dig by yourself or not?.

Ive read several reviews before i bought this screen by the way

As for getting better blacks on a different screen will that screen include a 120HZ display for £300?

I intended no sarcasm but see how it could have been interpreted as such. Thank you for your overview and initial impressions. The reference to "proper review" was in relation to my own experiences with the panel. They were too brief and I'd like to get it reviewed 'properly'. By properly I mean not only impressions but also concrete figures such as black and white luminance levels using various settings. As I said - if anybody could get (or link to) such figures it would be much appreciated. All of the reviews I've found so far of the panel are far too brief and opportunistic to be considered anything more than a scraping of the surface.

The OP is not only considering 120Hz panels. I would personally advise against jumping on the 120Hz bandwagon at that price unless the image quality outstrips cheaper panels with good responsiveness. On that note I can vouch for the XL2370 and possibly PX2370 being a good choice - and from what others are saying the far cheaper BenQ G2420HDBL, too.
