Hi

Should I got for
Two Asus ATI Radeon HD 5770 CuCore 1024MB in Xfire (£263 total) or

one Asus ATI Radeon HD 5850 DirectCU 1024MB (£254 total)

Or another option if someone has a better Idea. Ive only got £270 to spend (sniff)

Thanks
DAve

2 5770s will provide better FPS in games but a 5850 means you have space to upgrade in the future. Though your gaming at 1650x1050 would a 5830 be better off for you.

A 5830? hmm. Do you think at 1650 x 1050 im paying for something Im not going to use with a 5850?

I hadn't considered that possibility.

( I am trying to Save for a Samsung series 8 LED TV 40" but Im not sure what resolution I can get on that yet) Dixons and Comet sales people glaze over when you mention words like resolution. Unless the word has "Purchase a 5 year warranty" in it they don't understand

Then at 1920 x 1080, a 5850 is much better to get.

What are you basing this on exactly? Seems a lot of people think a 5850 is faster than crossfire 5770's when it simply is not, when infact the 5770's offer 5870 performance. Here is a recent review that shows this, not only are the average framerates higher but also (and more importantly) the minimum fps higher on the crossfire 5770 setup.

Guru3d december 2009 vga charts. The 5850 does not beat the crossfire 5770's in a single game. This was also done before crossfire profiles.

Bigwayne also made a good post about this.

Needless to say i'd recommend the 5770's, wouldn't change mine for a 5850 thats for sure.

Well then, if you don't plan to upgrade for a while, the 5770 xfire is the way to go. But if you want to upgrade later on, the 5850 will do, then adding another 5850 later on. Either way, both are good.

Been naughty today, bought two 5770's went home installed looked awesome. Took them out, returned to store swapped for a 5850 thought I could get away with the store guy giving me two for the price of one by going on about football etc., dam I hate intelligent tills. So came back with just one 5850. Yep much better than 2 x 5770 just seem so much crisper/smoother movement in high speed stuff.

This is because xfire sometimes causes micro stutter while gaming while you wouldint have this problem with a single card.

If you ask people that actually run a crossfire system i think almost all will say they don't get or notice microstutter. It was a problem for older multi gpu setups and is not present like it sued to be. I don't notice any microstutter, others that run crossfire/sli will hopefully shed more light.
