I got XP at the moment with my FAH rig but i noticed that the GPU uses 1 cpu at 100% utilization this is at 2.1Ghz (underclock) or 3.2GHZ it does not matter as it just use one cpu regarding of its frequency. So what is the best OS for Folding? XP,Win2003 or Vista.Sorry no for the penguin as i got to run my cctv at the same box.thanks.

With the newest Nvidia cuda drivers the CPU usage is the same or better in XP as it is in Vista. I'm folding right now with 1% cpu usage.

My vista folding rig is at 14% cpu usage but that's two cards and a single core A64.

Could you clarify what drivers you refer to please ?
ie download from the Nvidia site just the latest card drivers or the Cuda as well or instead of the latest drivers ? I've had problems gaming with the 2 recent Nvidia driver releases so I am not up to date.

Hmph. My XP64 setup is still using a complete core. AFAICT I'm on the latest drivers - 12/11/2008 according to Windows although it thinks they're version 6.14.11.8048 rather than simply 180.48.

I'm using 180.60 from cudazone.com

When I go there I get a page about parachuting & Zonealarm going off about blocking a spy site.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html seems to be more like it.

Your correct, the GPU hardly uses any CPU time, trouble is it sucks on my rig, BSOD aplenty, back to 178.24 which is rock solid.
ATI was never like this, next upgrade I'm going back to them, they should be folding OK by then.

Im running the latest 180.48 from nvidia site.guess i will need to try that driver from cudazone.nvidia also sometimes likes to freeze for a few seconds while using the mouse.ATI does not have this problem even with my cctv card running.

if it an' broke don't fix it :(

180 does not support AutoCAD
and 178+2.1 beta cuda is stable but sluggish. (control panel showing only 4% usage but feels like it's 80% usage)

Back on 178+2.0 for 4.1k on the massed 5757's I'm getting
Edit: upped my memory clock from stock (800) to 900 - takes another 2secs off time for 100ppd

Hmm, one of my 8800s has a 700mhz mem clock and the other two are 900. I'll try upping the memory when I get the chance.

The MSI VGA clock utility on my 8800GT reports 2090Mhz, OK I half it for being DDR Memory but it must be telling me porkies ? That is some overclock to be folding at 59C ?

I wanted silence or close enough to it & so got the "Zilent" MSI that has a Zalman cooler. It was a bit more expensive than a 8800 could be had for, but had replaced a noisy cooler on a previous card only for it to fail & the warranty to be null & void. The bonus is the cool running, I paid extra for the quiteness.
