which os for new rig?

building a new rig atm and due to being a tight scotsman i'm looking to save a few quid on the os

whats the best value for money os to put on for gaming and general useage?

thinking xp atm but home or pro, and is there any real benefit to getting vista?

It has pretty icons. But seriously, no. Get XP Home.

gonna do a new build soon and i'll put xp on that, when i need vista i'll replace it.

Buy Vista. You can still use XP legally, but it gives you the option to upgrade later.
