Ok at the minute i have vista 64-bit OS on my pc which is solely a gaming rig. My specs are i7 920, gtx 295, 6 gigs ram.

I would like advice as to what to do OS wise. Should i bother upgrading to Windows 7 now as i have little or no issues running the games i play in Vista? If i should get windows 7 which one would you recommend?

Thanks guys

I would upgrade to Windows 7 - game performance won't change, but the UI (in my opinion) is much improved over Vista and it feels far quicker to use. Also, I think the prices for Win7 go up in January. As for the version, Home Premium would be fine.

I'd stick with Vista personally and use the cash for something else. In your situation you've got a decent 64 bit OS and Win 7 isn't an enormous jump although I do like it a lot.

If you feel the need though go for:

Windows 7 64 bit Home premium as GK7 suggested or if you want remote desktop/builtin backup (seems to take ages in my experience) then head for 64 bit Win 7 pro.

Sorry to push in but I am still using XP 32, would it be worth while to purchase Win7 now since I read the bit about price rises?
Also what version should I go for?

Should add that I use my system for gaming, films, stuff like that.

I'd go for a version of Windows 7 that has basically everything apart from ultimate extras, I think Win7 Pro is the one you'd want. The prices do seem abit high though but if you can afford it I'd recommend the upgrade, Windows 7 seems a better OS to me, faster, more stable, uses less memory, don't get me wrong Windows Vista is a good OS but I think Windows 7 is well worth the upgrade.

If you can afford it get Home Premium. If you're really not bothered and see the OS as just a hoop you have to jump through to play your games then Vista will be absolutely fine for a long time.

The only thing that throws a spanner in the works is the current low price.

For home, I would go for Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit every time (would also definitely upgrade Vista!). I can't see the benefits of having Pro over HP for a gaming rig.

I can't imagine you would be running games in XP mode (presumably slow) or tying it to a domain?!

What will the price be for Win7 Premium when it rises in January or whenever?:) Are we looking at much higher, if so, I'll buy later today. :)

Are these price rises confirmed? If so i will probably buy 7 HP now. I can afford to purchase any version, i just begrudge spending money on anything other than games or beers ;)
