Quite fancy one of the OC bundles to use with an ATI 5850. It suits me to have something that clocks out the box as I don't have time to play games and OC.

Intel

AMD

I've got a seasonic 500W PSU - will that cope with the above?

Many thanks

The Intel one with outperform both the AMD's, but the second AMD you are looking at looks like a good bargain to me. I'd go with that.

Though if you want really good performance, may I suggest this bundle? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-003-OB

And your PSU should be fine, though I'd recommend getting one of these:

or for a cheaper option: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-008-CS&tool=3

Hope this helps. :)

Yeah that second AMD bundle as LinktoInsanity says is a bargain, I wouldn't say no to it:) That'll make a nice rig for some time to come.

Yes, for some more dosh the intel looks even better, that is if it's within budget.

so which one are you going for?! i was looking at the second AMD one as well. i also have a not so powerful Antec 550w psu. would it also cope i wondering?! thanks

I like the 2nd AMD one although not quite sure why its cheaper than the first option. The mobo is a bit overkill for what I'm after.

LinktoInsanity - would the performance difference be that noticeable in real world use? PC is mostly games and a bit of surfing but used infrequently really.

Slade - I have other bits and bobs to buy to spruce up my machine (case, kb and mouse) plus the 5850 so assuming theres not a great deal of difference between the intel and amd bundles, I'll probably go for AMD.

hmm... me too, im not that comfident with overclocking (autually i wouldnt have a clue) amd looks good for 400 squid. Yes the Asus Crosshair III sounds like a beast from what ive been reading on the web.

Well I do like tweaking and my current rig was purchased with the idea of getting a stable OC. Its an E8200 with a Gigabyte DS3 board. It was popular at one point for OCing and although I followed the guidelines and got the CPU running at about 3.2ghz and although I never did all the testing that others did I could play games for hours on end without it flinching but as soon as I restarted the machine it would revert back to stock.

No matter what I did or what settings it was on after the third or fourth restart it would go back to stock so I gave up.

These days I only get a few hours a week to game and being a family home the TV is booked out so the PS3 tends to sit quietly. Hence the revamp of the PC.
