Which panel type is best for gaming ??

I have upped my budget for a monitor now to £300 so just wanna chesk out the other panel types that may be better than TN.

Also if anyone wants to recomend any monitors for around this price, it would be very helpfull !

Cheers guys

There are some fast screens that aren't TN, like the LCD20WGX2, but that's out of your budget. TN screens are generally the quickest LCDs, but you sacrifice (especially) viewing angles, sometimes black depth and most of the TN panels around are 18-bit panels with dithering, rather than 24 bit like MVA/PVA/IPS.

TBH though you can game just fine on an MVA or the new IPS panels. Sure there might be a bit of ghosting and a bit more lag than on a TN panel, but not enough to spoil your enjoyment of most games. Having owned two TN panel screens (one 16 ms, one 8 ms) and 2 PVA panel screens (pretty slow ones too - 25ms) I found the viewing angles on the TN screens to be far more annoying than the ghosting/lag on the PVA screens. I played Prey all the way through on a 25 ms screen and it honestly wasn't that bad, and MVA/PVA/IPS screens are significantly quicker than my 25 ms PVA screen.

So what about movies on a Tn ?

This will be my second use for the monitor. I have heard ppl talking about 'Noise' during movies, is this useually minimal, or can it really affect the experience of watching a movie ?

Thanks for the help

You need to be looking at a TN screen head on ideally to get the best out of movies because if you dip down low or sit on the side etc (many folks like to lie down on their beds or recline back in their chairs) the screen will go dark or one side I wll go bright and colours will shift (common TN issue).

If the Dell 2007WFP is in your budget though it will be the best choice for everything you require.

Saying that the Hyundai 19" widescreen is very good for viewing angles and also colour (if a little on the blue side for some applications) - It's also the best performing gaming TN panel and has the image quality to back it up.

The Samsungs are also good but they have worse viewing angles and also colours are not as accurate or true.

On my 20" there is no noise when watching movies. You will get slight pixellation etc when watching compressed movies like divx and things but you will ahve to expect this since those movies are encoded at a much lower res (usually around the 640 pixels wide mark) and when viewed fullscreen at 1680x1050 you can imagine what the quality would be like when sitting close to the screen.

DVD movies however do not suffer this pixellation or noise, they look superb throughout.
