Which PCIe Lane?

Hi All

Just a quick question, I have just got my GTX780 and put it in my rig but noticed that my 580 was in the second PCIe lane so ive just done a straight swap with the new gtx780 does it matter? it says all the PCIe lanes are x16 but just wanted to make sure i wont loose any performance if ive put it in the second slot rather than the first.

think the reason why i had it in the second as my DCU II fitted better in the second slot as it was a 3 slot card.

should be fine,if running sli though the lower slot will run 8x and top slot 16x

but single cards it doesn't matter

The data will have to travel a few mm further, but that's about it

on gpuz its saying its running at pcie 8x?

Do you have anything in the slot below it? Even sound card or anything?

If not then your board probably only has one x16 slot, so move it up one for best performance.

Which motherboard do you have exactly? you should have a few 16x slots with an X79 rig... there are usually options to alter which slot runs at what speed in the bios as well.

Have you tried clicking the question mark and running the test to see if it changes?

no i dont have anything in the other slots, this is the motherboard i have and it says its " 3 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (dual@x16/x16; triple@x16/x8/x8), 1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (PCIe x16_3@x8 speed), 2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots"

Then the issue probably lies in your chipset drivers or your BIOS settings.

Could also try reseating the card. It might fix it. I'd do that first.

I just looked at a board I have, the white slots are only 8x electrically so you'll need to use either of the blue slots for 16x.

yes just moved into the top slot and its now running x16 thanks guys

just 1 more quick thing the free games that i got with this card i got the batman link from overclockers and the link to nvidia to get batman but how do i get the others as i havent had anything for those?

ok thanks just in case anyone is interested I did a Heaven 4 benchmark test with my 580 then i did it with the 780 (unknowingly in the x8 slot) and ive just done it in the x16 slot Interestingly theres only 1fps difference between x8 and x16.
