Hi there,

I need to trick my HTPC board that the fan is connected, when it is not. I dont want to use the motherboard onboard fan controller to control the cpu fan anymore.

What must I do to trick the board in thinking it is connected? bridge 2 pins only?

Can you not get the CPU fan on the CPU header? Most boards I've used allow you to turn fan monitoring off for CHA_FAN headers but not CPU_FAN

If you really must "trick" it a modded resistor cable would probably be safer for the board than bridging pins

Thanks,
Are these for sale anywhere?

I don't think my DIY skills for this type of thing is up to scratch!

I could, but then it would be on continually without being able to use a fan controller to quiet it. My best option is to simply get the pc to boot without anything connected to the onboard cpu fan header.

Also, I'm using an old board from a HP desktop, the bios has about 5 option in total, so can't change any settings in there either.

Most fan sockets look for a pulse rather than a load so I'm not sure resistors would work.
The usual method is to split the pulse wire from the CPU fan and feed that to the board.

Depends on your fan controller and if that needs to see the pulse.

A stopped CPU fan can quickly damage the CPU, socket or board so I'd recommend at least having the pulse with connected.
